Angela Martin: Hi, I’m Angela Martin, and welcome to number 9 Bolton Road in Koah. We are just about to explore a beautifully natural and simple lifestyle property. It’s got a super cute way up there, two-bedroom, two-bathroom cottage, a great big open farm style work shed. It’s got chickens. It’s got veggie area. It’s got fruit trees, and it’s all on a fully fenced five acres. I can guarantee if you are looking to escape from the city, or anywhere, for that matter, you are going to fall in love with this property, especially if you’re looking for a more wholesome and a more safe lifestyle, but you still want access to absolutely everything that you would ever want.

Angela: This is the– Da-da. We have come up a really gorgeous, it’s a really private, private, private and I’ll say it a thousand times, it’s a mega private property. The beautiful driveway has actually got lots of little entrances in it. We’ve got the gate and then the first one that we come to it takes us into the veggie area and the orchard. Then we’ll come a little bit further up the driveway and this takes us to this gorgeous little cute cottage. Then if we keep going up the driveway, that will take us to the open-style farm shed which we will get to but just take this in as we go to the actual cottage. We’ve got flat– We’re going to explore it. Don’t get too excited. I’m very excited.
It’s flat and usable land around about the house. That is really unusual. Normally, we have the side of a hill or we have a little bit around the house. On the five acres, we’ve got at least an acre and a half-ish that’s like this, all beautiful and usable. This is fabulous. This is a gorgeous two-bedroom, two-bathroom– I call it a cottage only because it’s like mega cute, but it is completely extendable as we can see we’ve got plenty, plenty of space. Let’s come up and explore fabulous natural steps.
When I spoke at the beginning about it being a natural and simple lifestyle, it’s all about the organics and the wood and the land and the feel that you will start feeling but look at this. This is like something off of a little fairy tale. It is bright. We’ve got fabulous high ceilings. We’ve got Cypress flooring, so it’s really really bright. Of course, we’ve got all a recycled, look at this, for a kitchen, organic and beautiful. I love all these little bright colours and of course, you can change them if you want to.
Again, the wood and the feel and the peace and quiet except for the birds, you will hear absolutely nothing. Of course, we’ve got bright windows. That’s a shed up over there which we’ll have a look at. We’ve got a potbelly stove. Hard to believe that in the wet tropics we actually do get some pretty chilly mornings and some pretty chilly nights so that is there and you can imagine putting your little flannelette PJs on and just sitting relaxing in front of the fire. Absolutely beautiful.
This is a big room. This is really a big room. We’ve got what, three, four, five, approximately six meters this way, plus we’ve got our open, outdoor living. Of course, this is where– All fully sealed, this is where you’re going to live. This is just the epitome because we’ve got a garden view. If we have a look at here, just glorious. A garden view out there, just glorious. Of course, as you’re lying in bed or you just wandering around the kitchen cooking tea, you just feel like you’re completely surrounded. Just brilliant.
This would be the master. We’ve got an air conditioning unit in there, plenty of bright and again, you wake up in bed in the morning and you’re just looking out and the ensuite. Again, all-natural looking out into green. Come on in, because we’ve got a shower. We’ve got a toilet. We’ve got a lovely vanity with a stone- a nice stone benchtop and of course the doors, all-natural doors. We’ve got the– Oh, that’s silky oak. Of course, we’ve got again, lots of light, lots of natural, natural light. I just love it. You could imagine just waking up in the morning and just– [gasps] Nobody can see you. Nobody can hear you.
Now, before we go for another quick wander, the deck just attention to detail and quality of product. This is ironwood. Ironwood is unbelievably tough. I think if you were to try and cut some with a saw, you’d blunt your saw really, really quickly. Good durable solid flooring. We’ve got our turpentine poles. Again, they would have come out the ground at some point. We’ve got our cypress on the floor and we’ve got our cypress cladding. It’s been built for the tropics to be ant and beastie resistant, really important. I love this. Just love it.
Now, this could be a rumpus area. It could be a parents retreat. It could be a guest wing. Of course, you could easily split this room into two but it’s just functional. We’ve got a music area here which is just fabulous. It could be a nook for an office. You could have a big day bed. You can have family staying here or of course children, or this could be your room and the guests that next door. Lots and lots and lots of flexibility.
Again, we’ve got– Look at this. This is just priceless and I go on about it being quiet. It really is mega quiet. If we’ve got friends here, we got family here, we have got their own little separate toilet, love of the colour, love the brightness of the colour, it goes great against the green and the organics. We got a shower room, toilet, vanity and a laundry at the other side so just poke your head in there.
[music]
Angela: The other thing you’ll notice too is the fact that we’ve got these brilliant screens. We’re not going to get hammered with the sun. We’re not going to get hammered with the rain. Again, it’s all indoor-outdoor. Look at this. Just look at this. Who would not want to sit at th e end of the day and just enjoy your dinner or a cup of tea in the morning or just whatever it is you would like to do, read, do yoga. This is a beautiful, beautiful space. We’re going to head up to the shed and then we’re going to take a little bit of a wander through the gardens which are beautiful, absolutely beautiful.
When we came in the area where we’re coming into the cottage, I said that we had the driveway that would come all the way along here. This is essentially where we would park our cars. This is big. This is brilliant. Come and have a look. We’ve got bore. We’ve also got rainwater tanks 24,000 litres each, so you’re never going to have any problems with water. It’s super-duper good quality and it’s, I think 16 meters deep. Crystal clear, beautiful, drinkable water.
Who would not love this? This is steel or gal steel, weatherproof, of course. We’ve got this brilliant concrete floor and plenty of space for either putting in your cars. It would certainly be high enough for your caravan or a boat. Think of all the projects that you could do in here. Absolutely, brilliant. Just have a bit of a quick look around there, and then we’re going to head out to that veggie area.
[music]
Angela: I just wanted to let you see, in case you’re buying from interstate and you’re not able to get here, basically the sides of the water tanks, as I said, the two roughly 24,000-liter rainwater, so big. Everywhere we go, there’s little bits of art that creep into this fabulous organic garden. I wanted to show you these brilliant bright colours. Of course, green bromeliads and the purple gate, just beautiful compliment. This is where we came in. We came in way up that driveway, and then went that way to the front of the cottage, and then we’ve come through to look at the farmer shed at the end.
The other thing you’ll notice too, apart from beautiful colours, look at that one through there, purple, is that we have corrugated iron fencing just at different angles. Again, it’s a design art feature, but it gives you almost like a second layer of privacy. Not that you need it because there’s plenty, but it just makes it feel cozy. We’re going to head around through in there, and we’re going to head down to the veggie area.
[music]
Angela: We’ll notice too, I mentioned about the fencing, that is not the boundary fence there, that’s just one of the art pieces, but from that corner down to the bottom part of the garden, it’s about 400 meters. Of course, that’s massive. We’ve also got a corner block, so I think we’ve got about 165-meter frontage. It gives you a feel for the size and the scale.
I just wanted us to walk through here because we can see, look, there’s just little bits everywhere. Now, this is not even in the veggie area. Look at that. We got tomatoes, beautiful, little– Oh, we got chilis, we have a chilli bush. We got a chilli bush. Chilli bush, you can imagine chilling, grinding, and pestling and mortaring that for all your Asian cooking. Brilliant beautiful blooming caladiums, I think, it’s what they’re called, and more chillis.
This area over here is really just where they do recycling, where you can pot up some plants, and you can see the transition. This is a little recycling compost area. You can see the transition into native and natural Koah bushlands. We’ve got all the little black boys or xanthorrhoea is they’re called. It’s easily walkable all the way around the property. You don’t have any obstacles so you can see what you have, but this is exciting. This is fabulous.
We got marigolds, which are anybody who does veggies knows that it’s absolutely fabulous for little beasties and mites. It keeps the bugs away. Just being able to come out your garden, I don’t know if you can see that over there with the light, but it’s indoor-outdoor with that little bit of luxury. Just beautiful. Of course, we have got– I should probably close this for the animals who will come in and eat everything.
We got our tomatoes. I don’t know the names of all of these, but tomatoes grow in here. I think that’s tree lettuce. We’ve got nice celery. We’ve got beans, we’ve got potato, more vines. This stuff is just going obviously nuts. Then have a look here too. Look at that. You got beans that you can actually just break off. I probably shouldn’t break it off because they probably got them marked for their dinner. Again, you can cook, you can grow everything that is organic, and in today’s world, that is such a plus. Pineapples and everything. Then just over here, we have got a myriad of pumpkins. Take it in, and we’re going to head over and have a look at some of those fruit trees.
Oh, we’re definitely going to have a look at those fruit trees, but just so that you can see. Look at that. We’re going to have baby pumpkins at some point in time with those flowers. I also forgot to mention we’ve got peppers. It’s like black spice pepper vine, and of course, dripping with passion fruit. Just fabulous. Bananas, if you love bananas, there are plenty of bananas. We’ve got– Oops.
How did we get in here? Here we go. Here we are. When we live far north Queensland, everyone loves the fruit, everyone loves the veggies so we just try and have little barriers so that we don’t have to share everything with the animals. We have got lychee trees. We have got mango trees. We have got– I think it’s around here. I can’t quite remember. There’s one of them that is actually called a peanut butter tree. Can you believe that?
The pods actually taste like peanut butter. I could just imagine spreading that on your toast in the morning, but these are all beautiful fruit trees, even bush lemon. If you’ve ever tried to pickle the rind of a bush lemon tree, it is just glorious. This is all prime and ripe for the picking, and of course, beautifully mulched and again all organic. It’s got everything, but we’re going to head over, and we’re going to check out those little chicken areas.
[music]
Angela: Then we’ve got more of these fabulous little just artistic gates. I just love them. This is where your baby chickens live. The chickens will come with the property if you would like them to. Again, we’ve got plenty of fruit trees in this area. Oh, gorgeous little hibiscus flower. We’re not going to disturb them too much because they might be sleeping. I don’t know when chickens sleep. Oh, here we go. They’re actually over here.
Can you see them? Little baby chickens, they’re clearing hiding, but they are fluffy and they are absolutely gorgeous. This is like a chicken heaven because they can scratch, and they can get fed, and they can run around as much as they want in their own little safe environment. Just absolutely brilliant, and again, adds to that whole lifestyle feel of a property. Let’s go have a quick look around the house again, and we’re going to do a wrap-up.
[music]
Angela: I really hope you’ve enjoyed this wonderful little baby tour of number 9 Bolton Road in Koah. Hopefully, you all have gotten a sense of just the calm and the relaxation that this property affords. Now, we’re not going to go on forever about this. The way the world is at the moment, either you could do downsizing, you could just live off the land, that self-sustainability, been able to grow your own food and not be dependent on having to jump in your car and go to supermarkets, or you could just be a mad gardener who just wants a lovely country property.
It’s so flexible. Of course, because the land is usable and it’s flat well and truly around the house area, you can extend if you wanted to, or put on another bedroom, or put on another little relaxation area. It is limitless. The feel, I go on about the feel because you have to be here to feel it, and you can hear the birds. I don’t know if you can hear the birds, but they stopped chirping there.
It’s just a beautiful little space, absolutely gorgeous space. We’ve got a guest wing or a second bedroom. We’ve got a master with our ensuite, and of course, that really big bright open living or rumpus area. As I said at the beginning, you’re going to be standing pretty much here where we are at the moment relaxing any time of day growing our veggies, eating the eggs from my chickens, or have an access to that fabulous big open farm shed.
It is just the ultimate brilliant value for money lifestyle property.
