Angela Martin: Hi, I’m Angela Martin, and welcome to number 57 Masons Road in Kuranda. This gorgeous one-acre property I’m super excited about sharing this with you today is all about quality lifestyle. It’s about energy efficiency, and it’s about low maintenance living. That was exactly what the current owners had in mind when they designed and built the house in about 2014, so it’s only six years old. We’re going to spend time. Come on up. You’re just going to fall in love with this beautiful, beautiful cosmopolitan style house. Now, come upstairs. I’m going take us straight into what, in my little, baby, humble opinion, is absolutely fabulous. Before we do, we’ll do just a little, baby orientation. The main entrance has two fabulous, beautiful, great big doors, which I just want to show you when we go back down. Just behind the door, we’ve got a toilet. We’ve got a bathroom. We’ve got a bedroom. We’ve got a cupboard. Then, we’ve got an office nook. Then, we have the master’s suite at the other side. Then, downstairs, we have laundry. We have another bedroom or an office, currently used as an office, and a double garage which is pretty much used as a party room. Of course, behind us, we’ve got that fabulous deck.
I’d just love to take us through this kitchen, and we mentioned about quality lifestyle. Oh my goodness, how much more quality would you need or want or crave for in this chef’s kitchen? I’m not going to go through every single detail, but we have got gorgeous stone benchtops. We’ll start here because this is a bit super exciting. We’ve got a Miele dishwasher. You can see everything is soft-close. We’ve got a combination of cupboards. We’ve got a combination of soft-close drawers, which I absolutely love. For people who are chefs, cleaning an oven is just like the most horrible job in the whole planet, and you tend to give it to other people to do it, but the IAG, a gorgeous European brand, is self-cleaning. How good is that? Of course, we’ve got stainless steel magic, great, big gas cooktop.
I’m just going to show you this as part of how fabulous some of the little extras are. This cupboard up here– You’re saying, “Angela, what are you doing? It’s just a cupboard. That’s where you put your little bits.” We have a little light here, and it’s called disco, so we can change– You imagine entertaining at night, and you’ve got family, you’ve got friends, all the lights are out, and you’ve just got the sound of the rainforest and the trees rustling. You’ve got that just of the ambiance, and you can change the colors, or you can just have it on red, or you can just have it on white, or you can just turn it off, but that just gives us a little bit of an indication as to the huge amount detail and quality fittings that have gone into the design of the whole house. Just have a little bit of a quick look around here, and then we’re going go onto that lifestyle deck.

Everything about this property is immaculate. Stainless aluminum. I’m just going to show you these because normally when things open and close, you struggle to open or close them. I just want to show you how easy that is to open and close. Absolutely fabulous. Again, with the entertaining, we’ve got the fabulous cooking there, and of course, you’re straight out. Now, we talked about the design and all the thought that has gone into every single bit of this build and the orientation of the deck is one of them. It’s been oriented, designed, whatever way you want to call it, but in the summer, you do not get the sun. You get shade in the summer, and in the winter, you get some gorgeous winter sun. That just means you’re going to sit out there pretty much 365 days a year.
Now, the other thing in terms attention to detail, the low maintenance for the house is steel bearers and beams. Metal, so you don’t have to worry about the wood. Beautiful wood here, just for effect, helps with the organics. These balustrades, from here to here, and we’ve seen them when we came in, and all the way across, are actually from a revered iron maker in Cairns. Elefantus is what they’re called. These have been specifically been designed to be galvanized, so you don’t have to paint them. You don’t have to varnish them. Of course, they fit beautifully. You’re not a slave to it.
You’re just going to be able to sit here and enjoy– Did you hear that bird song? Enjoy the birds, and enjoy the view all the way through down into your garden. We’re going to head down those little stairs again, and we’re going to have a look at the bedrooms.

Before we go down those stairs and look at the bedrooms, one of the most sensational things that I was actually going to keep for a little, baby secret, but I’m not going to, look at the view of the garden out the back. Look at that lap pool. I’m not going to even say anything about it because it is sensational. We are going to head down, and we’re going to spend a fair bit of time down there, out in the gardens, and just marvel at its luxury gorgeousness.

We are going to head down these stairs, I promise. Before we do, the energy efficiency of the whole house mentioned at the beginning, I just want to point out because you’ve probably never seen this before. Well, we’ve got LEDs everywhere, so that’s number one. If you have a lookup in the corners, no more dusting. Low maintenance. Unbelievable low maintenance. It has no corners, it’s 90 degree. Of course, we’re insulated. The roof’s vented. We’ve got louvered windows, so we have all that cross-breeze that just helps. You don’t actually even need airconditioning.
I did want to show you this when we came in. These doors are fabulous, so you can have these open or closed. You can come in a single door, or you can lock them. Again, everything works beautifully. You can have them wide open. Before I shut that again, come have a look in here. This is a separate toilet. I’ll come this way. Energy efficiency, flushing toilets, so low water usage. Again, hand-crafted, gorgeous, tactile, wooden bench. Again, we’ve got the 2.8 ceilings, nice and high. Again for those cross-breezes and ventilation. We’ve got the LED lights. Big bathroom.
Again, if you have a look here, this is just glorious. We’ve got chrome taps, but I love this because you just wash your hands, and your bits are there. We’ve got this great, big walk-in shower complete with fluffy, lovely loofah. Again, just for that luxury feel. Again, you can see the quality. We’ve got the drain here as opposed to in the middle. We have got stainless steel edges on the tiles and it’s white and it’s mega bright and we’ve got super easy and close louvers. I just love it, it just works.
The other bedroom, not the main bedroom is plenty big. Again, we have got privacy from the front because the plants are all trimmed and hedged. Remember, a living, including that beautiful lap pool is that direction and we’ve got storage in here and all the rooms have got fans. Now, I hope you just taken all this in. I’m just going to open this door again because I love it. The thing I did forget to mention was that the entrance section is actually lasered steel. Again bespoke bits of artwork and you can turn your sparkly lights on and off so at night time it’s just beautiful actually.
Nook for office if you have to work from home. Beautifully set up, you don’t have to use it if you don’t need it. This is the master. Oh, my goodness, we have got natural light. Again, we have got a louver windows. A telly for sitting and watching sport or cricket or something on a Sunday morning in bed. We’ve got a great big mirror here so we’re going to do this in two little baby hits. We’ve got a walk-in robe which has got plenty of shelves in it. Again, high ceilings, fans, LED lighting insulation, this room is beautiful and cool but I want us just to have a look in there because it is exceptionally indulgent.
Normally, ensuites are tiny little spaces but again as part of the design for the luxury living means that you can come in here and you do have plenty of space. Again, we’ve got soft close drawers for all your little bits that you do in the morning or before you go to bed as you do. Same toilet as we have in the separate toilet just at the back of the front door. Again this wonderful feeling of just freedom. I mean this is easily a two-meter shower recess and, of course, you’ve got all your chrome appliances. You come in, you don’t have those shower flappy things, the glass bits that you have to clean.
Remember, low maintenance was one of the key elements that the current owners wanted and hopefully, you’re getting a sense now that it is just super easy living. Pop your little head in the walk-in robe and then we’re going to head downstairs.

We’ve got all different elements that go toward the organicness and the low maintenanceness and the energy efficiencyness of this property. One of the things that again you’ll notice is that we’ve got rendered block from I suppose an insulation property as well. It is absolutely fabulous and you don’t have to worry about maintaining it. We’ve got cement sheeting, we’ve got galvanized iron, we have got cement block. We’ve got tiles and of course the plywood on the top level there just gives it that warm organicness. Now, Three ways we can go, we can head on behind us which will take us out into that yummy swimming pool so we will go there.
We have got laundry in here. Laundry is big and it is spacious and we have got plenty of cupboards. Again we’ve got drawers, we’ve got cupboards, we’ve got up, I was going to say upstairs cupboards, cupboards up top the bench, big sink. Again, when we’re washing stuff. People know I’m not a fan of the plastic, you can scrub it and you can clean it and they just work. Then out that way, we’ll have a look when we come out of the swimming pool. We’ve got a little extra area there that you can just sit and you can obviously hang up your washing. We’re going to leave that for one minute.
The room that we’re just coming into actually it was used as a double garage but it is such a fabulous space. Remember, we’ve got a double carport as we come in. That’s where your cars can live. This is just party room central, it could be a granny flat, it could be a reading room. It could actually just you could put it back into a garage or workshed if you wanted to but why would you? The roller doors here work beautifully, if you wanted to you could just put some nice bifold windows or doors. That’s the door closed it’s very breezy today, and this one here we have as an electric gate.
Hopefully, you can see too on the floor, we’ve got our immaculate concrete which has been that two-pack flooring on it. Again, low maintenance and super easy living and of course this takes us out into beautiful garden which we will go out and we will explore. From an orientation point of view, we came in the front and you can go into the double carport or you can come down the driveway and if you did as I said want to use this for your cars, you can come in here. Flexibility is huge, now this is really going to be a drum roll. Oh, this is so exciting. Currently, an office reading room and you can see how beautifully bright this is.
I’m going to open this door oh my goodness, I love that. That is just great and it oozes quality. I get a great big smile on my face because we have sparkly sky. We have the most amazing rainforest backdrop and of course, puts the elephant in the room. We’ve not talked about it because it’s just so gloriously gorgeous and it is like the most stunning feature of this property. Oh, yes. You have to be here and if you can’t, you’re already having a virtual inspection. This is unbelievably beautiful. The water feels clean, it feels crispy and you genuinely you just want to jump in. You feel that breeze?
This is what you’re going to get when you move either interstate or up from Cairns, you’re going to get Kuranda that is just the most fabulous climate in the whole wide world. Now take that in enjoy the relaxation and just actually imagine the blue lights that you can switch on in the pool at night. Or that shady section there that you can sit and read a book and that’s the thing to talk about all these little details. The design and the orientation is that up to about two o’clock, you’re going to get sun. After two o’clock, in the summer, you’re going to get warmth after two o’clock because we do live in the world heritage wet tropics of Far North Queensland.
You can enjoy being here late afternoon and not worry about the sun. It’s as simple as that and of course, the wall that it’s built into is going to keep that pool beautifully warm even in the winter. We are still technically just a fraction at winter and that pool is beautiful and warm. It’s inspirational, it’s spiritual, it’s whatever you want to call it. It’s energizing, it is just fabulous, absolutely fabulous. We’re going to have a bit of a quick wander through the garden.

I can’t stop looking at that swimming pool, I did actually talk a fair bit about that swimming pool because I’m talking about it again. You just don’t find lap pools or swimming pools that you can actually go and swim and enjoy that exercise and I think it’s about 13 meters-ish. Now, we came out the laundry and we had a bit of a sneak peek. That’s the laundry in there. That’s that special little room that goes out into the swimming pool. Again, this is not wood. This is low maintenance lifestyle to the nth degree. That just gives us a little bit of extra space under the house.
You don’t have to worry about going in there but you can put some gardening stuff and other little bits and pieces but the gardens, oh my goodness, just beautiful. We’ve got about an acre. You’ll notice the water tank there, we don’t town water but that actually pumps into the kitchen with a filter on it so you can if you want to drink rain water. We can also use that to fill up the swimming pool with our energy efficiency. Beautifully sculpted, beautifully landscaped and you’ll notice too the stones that come all the way through design feature, design element, but they are way deep so that actually channels off any water when it rains.
Again, you don’t have to worry about, we’ve had some rain and this grass is just beautiful and dry. Lumandra, low maintenance. You don’t have to worry about them but look at the engineering on this pool. Back to the pool, we said about the sun up till about two o’clock. We’re going to get all that absorption into the concrete which is going to hit the pool in winter, not to worry about it in summer but definitely in winter. Again, you can just see we’ve got the stone. It’s just low maintenance. Cut the grass once a week, once every two weeks or once a month in the wet tropics, as in when it rains rains but you’ve got veggies.
This is exciting. Now, little wallabies and little animals will come and have a nibble if your veggie patch is on the grass or on the the ground. Having them elevated up here makes all the difference and you can easily not hurt your back because look at this, we’ve got beans. Can you see that? We’ve got all these organic beans, gorgeous health health health and of course tomatoes. Tomatoes love here, you’re not going to have any shortage of tomatoes. If you just take a minute and look at the rainforest, we’ve got our fruit trees. We’ve got Lamandra, they are sort of native and they help stabilize banks so the enviro-care people would use them.
Look at that house, it’s stunning. Another little attention to detail, if you have a look under the eaves, you’ll see three vents. Te the space in the roof is vented, the ceiling is vented. It’s all insulated so again on a breezy day like today, the house is beautifully cool. Cross breeze, just fabulous. Of course, that’s the driveway that you could use if you want to, if we were coming in and going under the house. Just breathe it in and then we’re going to do a wrap up.

Oh gosh, I’m being caught out again. I really hope you’ve enjoyed this little baby tour of number 57 Masons road in Kuranda and when you think about it, you possibly may be having a look at an inspection for this property from one of the big cities at the moment, four five six million people. Kuranda has about two and a half thousand, three thousand people. We have unbelievable value for money and of course, I’m going to keep pointing at this luxury lap pool. Hopefully, you get a sense of just how unique and well presented and well designed and when well built this whole property is.
We spoke at the beginning about low energy, high efficiency quality lifestyle, oh, my goodness and of course, just the whole low maintenance. We’ve got brick, we’ve got galvanized steel. We have got louvered windows, we’ve got insulation. We’ve got 2.8 high meter ceilings, all the lovelies that you can actually just come to this beautiful part of the world and relax. One eye care, low maintenance gardens, great little veggie patch and of course, you can actually jump in your car or your bicycle and head into Kuranda village which is literally only five minutes away.
