Angela Martin: Hi, I’m Angela Martin, and welcome to Kuranda Springs at Number 48 Masons Road in Kuranda. This lifestyle property is absolutely stunning. I hope they can hear those little birds in the background. It is quiet, it is peaceful, and it is 100% private. The house, wow, it is beautiful. Absolutely beautiful. It’s a character-filled homestead, it is elegant, it’s classic, and it is just nestled, beautifully set, and amongst just under an acre of open, bright, and very, very sunny gardens. Just wonderful. As if that’s not enough, we actually have, we’re now going to talk about it just now, this whole topic of self-sustainability.
Let’s go in and have a look. You’re seriously, seriously going to fall in love with this property. Angela: [chuckles] This is wow. I just said 30 seconds ago about the wow, wow, wow. This is just an amazing feel. The property, the whole house is just oozing with natural light and has amazing calmness. I know I use that word not very often, but there are certain properties when you come into them, they just feel calm. Hopefully, one of the first things you’ll notice apart from the brilliant high ceilings is, look at this fireplace, romantic as romantic can be. This actually works.
On those chilly Kuranda nights, not that we get them very often, here we are in the wet tropics in the summer, it’s hard to imagine that you would use that, but you would, and it is beautiful. You sit there and you have a glass of wine or you relax and just watch the fire. Unbelievably perfect. Now, as we walk around, we have got the sense of space. Everywhere you look has got a nice organic feel, I love this, even to the point where you have got like a French provincial, I mentioned, homestead, but it feels like a farmhouse, a very up-market luxury farmhouse because those walls are rendered in a beautiful soft tropical white.
Then we come into [chuckles] the absolute just beautifulest, brilliantest kitchen. We’ve got stone benchtops, we’ve got magic little character-filled taps here, and a cooking machine. a Smeg, big enough for all the cooking, all the entertainment you’d ever want to do. Of course, we’ve got this just– I just love those tiles, they’re very rustic. Very, very lovely indeed. Now, central island bench is super, duper handy. We’ve got a butler sink over here, which is magic. It’s, again, part of that farmhouse homestead feel. Plenty of cupboard space and brilliant big pantry.
Now, ta-da. I love that. We’ve got this– How good is that? Plenty of space in here for all your bits and your bobs, all your food, all your cutlery. We’re talking about luxury on a stick, and we’ve got this little one here, but it just adds to the character of it. It’s fabulous. This door really is beautiful. This is gorgeous, absolutely gorgeous. Now, we’re going to go through here, have a bit of a look, and then I’ll do a bit of a quick orientation.
Walk with me on this one. A beautiful, beautiful, and I’m going to say it again, beautiful room. This has got garden views, it has got windows, it has got high VJ ceilings. We’ve got tiled floors. We also have another little wood-burning stove here so that if you really are feeling the cold, maybe you come from North, North, North, North, North Australia, and the wet tropics in the summer or the winter is not actually cool enough for you, you can actually get that heat. Very, very fabulous. Again, we’ve got the rendered walls here. [knocks] Solid, beautiful.
We will go out here. We’re not going to go at the moment, but just a little bit of a sneak peek into how beautiful the gardens are. They’re manicured, they are low maintenance, and then they’re also character-filled. Look at those stone steps. Absolutely brilliant. We’re going to head back through here. Quick orientation through to the bedrooms. Look at this, natural light. Natural light, natural light, natural light. Down this side of the house, we’ve actually got a bathroom and a bedroom and a laundry. Then on this side, we’ve actually got the master with an extra little room there, so we’re going to go in and have a sneak peek.
[music]
Angela: Come into this just amazing master bedroom. This is such a big luxury, and I’m going to use that word a lot because it feels luxurious. We talked about character-filled, look at all these lovely yummy bits here. This room is so big that you could have your bed in that direction, you could have your bed against that wall, you could have it in the middle, you could have it over here, not that you would because that view is fabulous. [chuckles] It’s just like a resort. You’d never tire of waking up in the morning and looking out at that garden. I mentioned 100% private, that is 1,000% private. You would never have to worry about ever closing those doors.
Speaking of wait, wait till you see this. If you did want to close your doors, of course, you’ve got normal doors, but you have also got these just brilliant, and I mean just brilliant sliding doors. Behind each of these, we’ve got built-in robes. This is great for ventilation so you can put your clothes in there, you can put your clothes in over here, and then look at that. If you didn’t want to close them, you still got all your ventilation up and over.
We have got silky oak. Now, for anyone who knows that I’m madly in love with wood, silky oak is just one of the most revered woods. It’s beautiful, it’s gorgeous, it’s incredibly expensive, and you really can’t even buy it any longer. To have all these doors in amongst everything that you’ve got, it’s just brilliant. Now, sneak peek out there. We will go out there, relaxation hammock.
Then we’ve got a his and hers big closet in here. Then we got a his and hers shower, big ensuite. Go in here and we have got plenty, plenty of space. You come out and you splish-splash. All tiled floors. You got your loo, you got your two basins. Again, all of these rooms go out onto the balcony, so you can either have curtains, not have curtains, whatever takes you fancy, but you would never, ever have close those doors. I’m going to meet you back through at the other end and we’re going to have a little bit of a look at the other bedrooms.
[music]
Angela: We have to remember that rooms are there to be used for whatever you want them to be used for. This is a bedroom, and again, a relaxation spot. We have these just gorgeous, gorgeous spaces. Look at this, all goes out onto another relaxation spot. We are going to go round to the balcony. Of course, we are, but it’s just to give you a sense of how relaxed and calm this whole place is. I’m going to meet you at that other end.
[music]
Angela: This is just another glorious bedroom. What’s to say? Come in. It’s gorgeous. Again, we’ve got the VJ, we’ve got fly screens on here. We have got sliding doors where we’ve got a robe. It is just calm, calm, calm, calm, and even more calm. Now, the bathroom in here we’ve had a look at. We’ve got, again, plenty of storage space. We’ve got another whole cupboard in here. We’ve got a laundry, just brilliant laundry, hips of space in there. Just pop your little head in. Then we come out to the side of the house.
Now, we’re going to take a wander all the way around, but I just want to quickly show us here. There are no lights on here. I just wanted to show you how bright it is, and it’s not an overly bright funny day today. Plenty of space here to either hang up your washing or set up a gym or just that’s another little spot. A sneak peek out here just to how beautiful this is. We’re going to come out here in just a minute, but before we do, we’re going to head out to this other room, bedroom, art room. This is a tool shed area in here.
I’m just going to give you a little sneak peek. We talked at the beginning about self-sustainability. Close your eyes for one minute. Ta-da. Great big room, plenty of storage, and batteries, solar battery. I’m going to zip. We’ll talk about that later. This room is just glorious. It can be a day bedroom, could be a bedroom, could be an art studio. Again, we have plenty of cupboards at the end, old brick, old block. We’ve got screens on the windows. It could be a little granny flat, could just be for extended family, but remember, rooms are for whatever you fancy doing with your life.
From an orientation point of view, this is actually where we came in. Of course, this is the carport. You probably wouldn’t use it as a carport because it’s brilliant lifestyle space. The office is along this part, but feel this. Look at the gardens. Just look at these gardens as we walk past, just beautiful. Beautiful. Entertaining area. How many entertaining areas would you actually like? How many entertaining areas do you need? They’re everywhere on this property. Everywhere. Great casement windows, again, all silky.
Now, this is brilliant. A two-way office, so hopefully getting a sense of how you actually get round the house. You can walk all the way round it and all the rooms come off from the balcony. It’s corner office with the most amazing garden views. Everywhere you look is green, it’s lush. You hear the birds, you can hear the animals. I’m talking about animals, you will have wildlife here, wallabies, kangaroos, cassowaries. You’ll have everything come through. It’s just such a fabulous spot. This takes us background to, the entrance, the entrance to even more relaxation. I want you just to have a quick look at the garden and then we’re going to have a look at that pool.
[music]
Angela: Seriously, never normally lost for words, but seriously, I listen to those cuckoo birds. Little secret here, where else are you going to find such a beautiful spot where you’re sitting here in your hammock or you are having a lookout into your garden? So many people now just want privacy, privacy, privacy. If you look down over here, totally private. If we look up over here, totally private. If we look around the other side, totally private, and at the front of the property, totally private.
Now, this swimming pool is brilliant, absolutely brilliant. Now, it’s not just a normal everyday swimming pool, it is a swimming pool that is so close to natural water that you would not believe. It’s called the Bionizer system and it is almost drinkable. It’s very clean, it’s very simple. It’s very, very natural. Then we have our spas. This will be your best friend. B is the one that you press. The other thing too is that it is heated. Yes, we have a heated Bionizer luxury plus swimming pool that is just amazing. You could be sitting there with all your family, all your friends, or just on your own because you just want to jump in and relax.
You have this as– This is your backdrop. Got little stepping stones all the way down. You’re sitting there and I want you to see what it’s like sitting in your pool. [laughs] You come down round this way and then we can look back up that way. It’s just magic. It’s absolutely magic. You’ll also hopefully notice solar panels on the roof, at the front, on the side, everywhere you look, but we will come to that in about two minutes’ time. This is absolutely priceless.
[music]
Angela: Wow. That’s a lipstick palm only really to be found in the world heritage tropics. You actually find them in most of the tropical parts of the world, but they are so slow to grow that something that is that size must be madly in love with its location because it just is happy. It is a happy red lipstick palm. When we looked out from one of the living areas– We got to show you these doors. They’ve all got little hooks on them. They all open and close so you can have them open or closed, whichever way you fancy. They’ve got hooks on all the doors so that when it’s windy, you don’t get bang, bang, bang, slamming, which really is annoying. Every single one of these, you can see all the hooks on the walls.
The gardens I mentioned are low maintenance, so you’re not going to be a slave to the garden. Oh, just look at that in there. What is not to love about indoor-outdoor living? The stone steps, but I think it’s like something out of a French– I mentioned at the beginning, it feels like either an English country garden or a French provincial garden because they have just got so much character. They are just absolutely– I love steps, I love stone, I love everything organic as hopefully you know now. These steps actually go up– Let’s have a quick look, show you where they go.
This is like coming up into your own parkland. They head up to where you can grow veggies. We’re not going to walk all up there, we’ll see it from down there, but I just wanted to let you see that we’ve got fencing, we’ve got fencing, and at the other end, we’ve actually got a gate. As part of Kuranda Springs, we have some common land, parkland, if you like, that we all have access to. There’s a creek, there’s a dam, there’s barbecue area. There’s just open space. That’s what gives everyone that separation and that privacy from the neighbors. There is, as I said, little gate up there that you can use or not.
Look at the view coming back down here. Look at the view out of the swimming pool. It’s just [chuckles] all too wonderful. Now, along here, this is– Can just have a look. Stick in here. Just have a little look in here, with sandstone, big, bright, bold, paved area. Now, in here, if you have birds or cats or you just want some extra storage, you don’t really need it because you’ve got hips of storage.
We have this other little spot in here. It’s all caged. They will keep them all nice and safe and dry. This is brilliant. It’s fenced, so you will not have to share your food with animals. You can put all your herbs, all your little tomatoes, all your basil, whatever you fancy, in here. We have fencing back here as well. Just as I said, keeps all the animals out, and you can just come here and potter away. Plenty of storage there as well for your little wheelbarrow and your garden bits and pieces.
Now, we mentioned about self-sustainability. We have solar hot water, and we have those batteries that you’ve seen. We’ve got about 24 panels, 285 watts, and we’ve got about 16 panels that are running about 300 watts. Now, that comes to a whopping, give or take, 12-kilovolt system, kVA system. You can run your air conditioning, you could run your heated pool all year round, and you would never have a power bill, so another fabulous reason.
You can grow your own food. You have got your self-sustained power system. You have got your solar hot water. Gobsmackingly fabulous. We are going to just head back round to the front. We’re going to have just another quick look around the gardens, and then we’re going to do a wrap-up.
[music]
Angela: Look at that gorgeous, little– Look at the paddy melon, little kangaroos, little wallaby. Just fun stuff. That’s what I was saying. It is magical.
[music]
Angela: I really hope that you have enjoyed this wonderful little tour of Number 48 Masons Road/9 in Kuranda Springs in Kuranda. I really, really hope that you have got the sense of amazing tranquility. I’m standing under this fabulous, great, big fan on a really hot summer’s day, and you have this feeling that everything’s okay. It’s peaceful, I mentioned 10 times. It’s calm, as I’ve mentioned 10 times. It just has this beautiful tropical relaxation feel. We’ve got these beautiful neutral colors. We got our tiles all the way through. We got our high ceilings. We have just got, as I said at the beginning, luxury on steroids.
A solar system, oh my goodness. No power bills, so you can run your air conditioning. You can run that fabulous lifestyle pool that we spoke about, the Bionizer system, with those spa jets that you will just jump in and out of, guaranteed all day every day.
All these rooms, there’s so much space that you can create whatever lifestyle and dream that actually works for you. Garden’s bright, open, and sunny, so you’re going to get natural light. Natural, natural light is a very best friend in the tropics. The location, the location is brilliant. We have a hop, step, and jump in the car into Kuranda Village, and just 15 minutes down to some of Smithfield where you’ve got everything you would ever need.
