Angela Martin: Thank you for watching. I’m Angela Martin, and welcome to Number 34, Kuranda Crescent in Kuranda. A beautiful, sparkly morning under the palm trees. If you love character-filled properties, character-filled homes that are uniquely different and a really big bit special, then this whole property will not disappoint. It has been lovingly looked after and maintained by the very same owners for roughly the last 25 years.
What’s extra, extra, extra special is that it has a self-contained cottage. Think rental income. Think friends. Think family. The location is absolutely fantastic. The property is low maintenance. Beautiful tropical gardens. You’re seriously going to fall in love with it. Let’s go in and have a look and explore.
[music]
Welcome as in every single property probably ever on the planet in the whole of Kuranda. We have lots of different ways of actually getting into the house. Now, you’ll notice it has a fabulous faced stone. It’s a block house, so it’s robust. It’s solid. The original door, which is one that we’re not going into, is actually here, but could easily be resurrected if you wanted to, but it becomes a beautiful part of the living room, which we’ll just see.
Little sneak peek. We’ve got some character windows that are in the living room, actually, from – ah – I’ll wait till we get in so I can tell you. Big, open, outside entertaining area. Now, imagine what you could do here, even just coming into the front of the house, the possibilities are absolutely endless. We’ve got a great big area over here. We’ve got a big barbecue. We’ve got a big dining area there. Big enough for this big table. The original house has rainforest hardwood, and that’s just part of the warmth. The house is cosy. It’s cute. It’s homely. As I said, it’s absolutely character filled.
We’ll come back out here, and we’ll have an explore, but we’re going to head in to what is an absolutely beautiful, beautiful, sparkly kitchen. Now, the kitchen and the bathroom are recently renovated, probably two or three years ago in 2022, and you have got fresh. You have got modern. You have got cosmopolitan, actually. Beautiful rosewood benchtops all the way over. Look at the size here. Imagine cooking your dinner, preparing, chop, chop, chop, chop, in this fabulous environment.
Benchtop goes all the way across here. We’ve got great big pantry. Shouldn’t open pantry doors, but it’s a big corner one. Drawers, cupboards, more than you would probably ever need, stainless steel sink. We’ve got the modern with the old, with the wooden windows. We’ve got silky oak windows. Whoops. Oh, I just knocked over one of the little things. I’ll just put that back. Again, bespoke handmade silky oak doors, just giving it lots and lots of character. Brilliant.
Then behind us, so don’t worry about your big fridge. It will fit. Then behind us, we have got sunken lounge. Warm, cute, cosy, homely. It just has a really relaxing and comfy feel. Again, if we have a look up here, we’ve got a natural rainforest timber on the ceilings. You just can’t get it anywhere else other than in Kuranda in the older style houses. Absolutely beautiful.
Now, this was the front door over here, which, like I said at the beginning, you could actually use that if you wanted to, but it just creates a lovely alcove. We’ve got a lovely cathedral windows. These old windows up here have actually came from an old church. These ones up here came from an old church. Watch this. I love this. It’s the little things. Look at that. Absolutely brilliant. The sunken lounge as well, that also gives that the sense of fun, quirkiness. Not quite the right word, but it’s not your standard run-of-the-mill home. That’s the charm. That is the appeal.
Now, we have another room in here. This could be– well, it’s used as a bedroom. It could be an office. Remember, it can be anything you want. Imagine what you could use that room for. It’s right off the living area. You could even put your little television in there if you wanted to. Put your stereo in there. All up to you. Then coming up here, look at this kitchen. Just look at it. It’s beautiful. Absolutely beautiful.
Now, down the hallway, we have got a bathroom and a loo and a walk-in robe. Now, this is just beautiful. Absolutely gorgeous, modern, fresh. We’ve got the fan that goes on and off when we put the light. Oops, there’s a little light here. On and off, so you don’t have to worry about your extractor for your shower. Absolutely inspired. Great big linen area in there. Plenty of room for storage. Then just check out the size of this shower. Absolutely, look, big. Again, you’re splishing, splashing, and not even worrying about getting anything wet.
Then on this side, when you come out your shower, you have an indulgent walk-in robe. This room, it’s all been kitted out to actually hang your clothes. Again, this could be made into another bedroom if you wanted to. Remember, they are just rooms, and you can use them for whatever you fancy. Big toilet. Here we are. Really big toilet, actually. I just want to show you these little extra things because you just don’t get them. This is what makes houses full of character.
Up here, we’ve got a rainforest wooden ceilings. Silky oak. Can’t buy silky oak. You can, but it costs you about $8 billion for a ton of it. Very, very revered wood and very hard to find. Then we come full circle into what is another– what’s part of the balcony there, which we will– oops. We nearly just tripped there, which is part of the entertaining area. Now, we’ve got open laundry, which is super handy in the wet tropics. You can be as wet. You can be as dirty. You can be as splishy-sploshy as you like.
Then we have another room through here, which is, again, currently used as a bedroom. Good-sized room. We’ve got a queen bed in here. Again, we’ve got the ceilings that are just not flat. They’re just not square. Absolutely magic. Just beautiful sense of calm. We’re just going to head back out there, breathe, and I’m going to show you that wonderful gazebo.
[music]
I know it’s absolutely– the whole thing’s fabulous, but I just wondered if I also mentioned again, I’m going to keep using the word again. Silky oak character-filled doors. We also have here, as we came out, just before we go into the gazebo, look at that. Just brilliant. Absolutely beautiful. You feel like you’re in a stone cottage with all these fabulous wooden features.
Now, this is brilliant. Just think what you could use this for. It is in the garden. It’s open-air. It could be whatever you want it to be. We have a brilliant, and I mean a brilliant open-air space. It’s currently used as like a daybed, just a big relaxation spot. You can actually feel the airflow from the garden all the way in here, all the way through the house.
Look at the garden views. We have got the garden that goes all the way down the bottom, which of course, we will go and have a look at, magic little lily pond just down there and we can start to see all the colours of the tropical gardens. Brilliant spot here just for sitting having a cup of tea in the morning or entertaining and a fabulous bed.
Now, this bed, actually, if you want it, to comes with the property. It is mango wood and it would probably take 10 men, 10 big people to actually lift it or move it. It’s not literally, but it is solid mango wood and very, very robust. Beautiful room, nice high ceilings, and fabulous easy access up into the house.
This here, open living feels– what’s the word? It’s really, really, really homely. Now, sometimes you walk into a property, and it can be beautiful, but it might be a bit sterile. This instantly feels like your home. I love this. This is just instant. It just feels like a cottage, like a house, like a little cute homely house that has been around for hundreds and hundreds of years. Obviously, it hasn’t, but it has that just that big comfort relaxation factor.
When we came in, which is here, as I mentioned, we’ve got the main house, which is this part of the house with these poles, this is all additional extra undercover outdoor entertaining, which you could take away if you wanted to. Why on earth would you? Because it just doubles the size, triples the size of the whole living area. It easily walks into a self-contained cottage. Now, think family, friends, income.
Just look back here, just look back here. Look at that. Is that just not saying, let me just not do anything today and just sit and read a book? Beautiful. This has got the biggest balcony detached from the house. You actually, you could rent it if you wanted to. Like everywhere else in Australia at the moment, there is a huge shortage of rental accommodation. Two, if you’re a couple and you just perhaps have extended family or you have teenagers, this would just be absolutely perfect.
Come over here, we can actually get a look at the little swap. We’ve got the house here, we’ve got the gazebo here, and have a look down over here. We’ve got the most amazing rock features with the garden. You’ll get little frogs and all sorts of things in there all through the year. Now, this is self-contained, as I mentioned, but not teeny. That’s a little word for it’s not tiny. We have a really big– this kitchen is probably bigger than most people’s kitchens. This would normally be your kitchen, but then you’ve got this extra space over there as well, and over in here, we’ve got this whole area is actually a big pantry, lots of storage, and again, space for a fridge.
Big comfy sofa here. We’ve got a bed area here. Now, this could easily be made into another couple of rooms again. Think about what you could do if you did want it for Airbnb or long-term accommodation or for your friends or your family. You could easily put a little door here and have this as a separate bedroom. Double cupboards, and then we’ve got a really big bathroom. We’ve got a loo just here. I’m going to show you here. We’ve got a loo just in here. We’ve got a vanity and fantastic views out to the rainforest. Absolutely glorious. It’s 100% private. Great big shower in there.
Then we walk back out into our backyard. We’ve got that Asian Japanese inspired bridge just there. Hopefully, you can see that, you can either be integrated or it would easily be separated if you did want to do something with it regarding income. We’ve got the gardens that go all the way across here. Veggie patch just waiting to happen just over there. Yes, just beautiful. I’m going to meet us down over that little bridge, and I’m going to take us down the back for a view of those gardens.
[music]
You could just spend forever, I promise we are getting to that bridge. I did forget to mention that all the furniture that you see in the little baby cottage is available for sale if you want to, which could just be perfect if you wanted to rent it out absolutely instantly. Look at this bridge. So character-filled, and it feels like it should be something out of a musical where the boyfriend and the girlfriend, they sit on the bridge and they meet and they have all these lovelinesses around about them. Absolutely just beautiful.
A little pond in there that you would have seen from the balcony, and all the walkways, we mentioned low maintenance. We’ve got the walkway that comes in from the balcony there. This all joins up beautifully, and, oh, look at that tree. Oh, look at that palm tree. I think it’s a queen palm, but it’s obviously been there a very long time.
We’ve also got a little walkway that goes around the side of the gazebo and beautiful orchids. My goodness, look at that. Orchids and tree ferns and fruit trees and everything that you’d ever want. Of course, this is the number one fabulous thing in the whole of Queensland, whole of Australia is a hill’s hoist. You just don’t see them very often anymore.
Now, over here, we’ve got a little area under the house, which is a workshed. Oh, you got to hug the tree, oh my goodness. You find a lot of these in Kuranda, that is absolutely beautiful, it is massive. It’s not a big work shed, but it is totally handy and just think about all the things that you could do under there if you were hobby inclined.
Another quick thing too is when I mentioned it was steel framed and the actual posts go into the ground about 900 mil deep, that is ridiculously deep, so that is going absolutely nowhere. We’ve got concrete under here. Just pop your head in there as well. We’ve got a little bit of concrete. It’s under the house. Endless possibilities for actually extension at the back if you want. You can easily get under the cottage. We’re 1,000% percent private. Absolutely, totally private.
Now, the garden, this is what I want to talk to you about with the garden. Just head up back up, we’re actually going to head down here. No, actually, we’ll go up here. The garden is about 1,400 square metres, and this bit here that we’re actually standing on is actually council land. When the council many, many, many, many years ago actually built the walkway to Barron Falls Road and into Kuranda Village. There was a great big section that every single person along the back of the some part of the Kuranda Village of Kuranda Crescent was gifted, i.e. it used to be council land.
You can use it, you can do whatever you want with it except build on it, but this almost doubles the size of your land. This was previously, or this is about 1,400 square made us on the original property with the two houses on it. This is a bonus. Absolutely wonderful. We have a great big privacy fence that goes along the back here.
Oh, look at that. We’ve got plenty of fruit trees. We’ve got bananas. We have got– I don’t know what that is, but it’s a big fruit tree. Fruit trees all the way along the back here. I’ll just pop us around here. Frangipani, bananas, dragon fruit, mulberry, just absolutely– lychee. Oh, it must be a lime tree, there we go, smell that. Oh, smells absolutely brilliant.
Now over this corner, herbs. We’ve got a mango, this looks like a mango tree, more bananas, and on this far corner over there, we actually have access down onto the walkway. You can hear, hopefully, the Barron River, that’s a little cottage up there. As I said, it’s limited by your imagination as to what you would want to do with this part of the garden. We’re not going to go for a great big walk into Kuranda, but you can if you want to.
Just pop your head down over here and you can see that we have got a big concrete path, big beautiful stone steps. That is the mighty Barron River. Absolutely a fantastic, beautiful place to actually go down, walk, just relax, walk along its banks. Absolutely fantastic. You can see how much space we’ve got up. Whoops, we’ll just head down that way. I’ll just close this door. How much space we have. We have a combination of shade. We have a combination of sun.
Let’s go back up here. All these amazing fruit trees. Think veggie garden, think play area for the children, think relaxation, think put boulders, you could just do whatever you want to do with it. It’s just beautiful. Another great big fabulous tree up here. This is amazing. Absolutely amazing. Just breathe it in. I’m going to meet you up under that balcony for a quick wrap up.
[music]
I really hope you have enjoyed this fabulous little tour of Number 34, Kuranda Crescent in Kuranda. Why would you buy this property? Hopefully, your imagination will have run riot with all the endless possibilities and the configuration of not only the house and the cottage, but also, what you could do with the land as well. The location is fantastic and it is 100% private. Beautiful low maintenance gardens. Absolutely. Look at that lily pond. It’s absolutely beautiful. We’ve got our big palm trees. We’ve got our tree ferns, and we have that extra bit of land at the back that you can use except the building on for whatever you want it to be. Gorgeous stone house, church windows, silky oak doors. Just uniquely different.
