Angela Martin: Hi, I am Angela Martin. Welcome to Number 2b Fairyland Road in Kuranda. Before we talk about anything, just google Fairyland Road. It has got such a fabulous, rich history, and it is absolutely one of the most highly sought-after locations in the whole of the area. Now, is there such a thing as a zero-maintenance house? Oh, my goodness. I hear you say, “Probably not.”
Well, this is the closest that I have ever seen. Even in your wildest dreams, you couldn’t imagine a house that is so low or no maintenance living. Fabulous, fabulous, fabulous. It’s only four years old and it has been built to the highest quality. It has got fabulous fixtures and fittings. It’s just oozes fabulous construction. Brilliant, absolutely inspired design, and so livable, absolutely livable.
Of course, we’re on about 3.2 incredibly private acres. When we came along that driveway, we just were nestled right in amongst this fabulous, fabulous property. Let’s go in and have a look. I just mentioned about the almost zero-maintenance property, and I just wanted to come in here so we can see just where that actually starts. Now, the whole property or the whole house is tiled. That’s concrete and tile. The whole house is core-filled block work. There is no timber in this house at all, so you don’t have to worry about ants. You don’t have to worry about rot.
Again, we’ll see, as we go through, if we have a look up into, or even up in here, beautiful lights for the nighttime. We have shadow-style cornicing and walls, so you don’t have cobwebs on the little bit of cornice between your wall and your ceiling. That in itself is fabulous. Brilliant outdoor entertaining area. Just immaculate. That’s the thing. Four years old, but even if it was 20 years old, it would still be unbelievably immaculate. This is just pristine.
Great big sink. Have your family, your friends around, and you can just sit out here. This is where you live. In reality, this is where you live. Big table, one, two, three, four, and room for six people here. You could get a table three times the size and you still have plenty of space. We’ve got a garage in there, which we will come back out and have a look at, but let’s go into the living area. Again, it’s pristine. Now, you will, hopefully, notice just little things. Remember, we spoke about quality of build-inspired engineering.
This has just been thought about unbelievably. The floor plan, the actual building plan, every single detail is all being mapped out and thought through. Tiles. We have not just regular tiles that are just crisscrossed. They’re actually lighter and angle, and we’ve got the border all the way round. That’s somebody that has actually thought a lot about what they want it to look like and what they want it to feel like. Big kitchen. As you would expect, soft-close drawers, and easy, easy, clean magic, great big stainless steel sink.
Plenty of space either side. All of our windows here, they look like wood. Zero-maintenance. They are actually aluminium. Again, you don’t have to worry about treating them or painting them at all. Great, big cooking machine for the chef and the family. This is gas. It’s also got a gas oven too. The gas bottles are just around that side of the house. Plenty of bench space. We’ve got a dishwasher. We’ve got a pantry, a really big pantry. It goes all the way around in here.
Remember, close your eyes when you’re looking in people’s cupboards, but huge amounts of space. Energy efficient. I’ll turn that light off and I’ll tell you about that in a minute. Huge area here just for sitting, relaxing, and watching telly. When we look at outside and when we look at in here, this whole, just living space is massive. I want you to breathe it in and then we’re just going to have a wander through there and have a look at the other rooms.

This is just beautiful. We have got custom-made, custom-designed little handrails. Look at these. That’s just lovely, absolutely lovely. All beautifully finished. No sharp edges. Solid wall on the inside. Solid wall on the inside. Solid metal. Remember, zero-maintenance. Down the side of the house, we’ve actually got three bedrooms and three bathrooms. Well, this is just one of the bathrooms. Very lovely, very bright, very big, very bold. Plenty of space.
I think it looks lovely, but you’re not going to walk into it. When you put little things on your windows for your birds, well, that’s a bit like a little thing on your window for human beings that don’t have great eyesight. All tiles. Again, I’m going to go on about the quality because this is what absolutely sets this property apart. It’s just not a common, just put up house. It’s been thought through and it’s just solid, beautiful vanity. I love the tub floors, nice wood feel.
Now, with these cupboards, we’ve got plenty of cupboards in the property. Again, I won’t go in people’s cupboards, but even the sliders, absolutely beautiful. They just slide. No dust, no dirt in the tracks. Amazing. Bedroom in here. This is a lovely, lovely, lovely room. Now, all the rooms actually look out to the garden. It’s all fully fly-screened. Oops, that one’s locked. Fully fly-screened, so you can leave your windows open pretty much all day every day.
Again, tiled and that beautiful– Actually, just come this way. I need to just show you this. This is impressive. Look at the wood for that wall. We’re not looking inside somebody’s cupboard, but that solid, solid, solid. There, I’ve said my piece. We’re done with the solid. Then we come back out into the hallway. Now, down there. Beautiful, big surprise. Another cupboard. This is the master. Again, bright, fresh, and airy.
Just remind ourselves, we have got low-energy globes all throughout the house. We have got beautiful fans all throughout the house. Remember, I said at the beginning that we have no cornice, so we’re going to have no cracks in the ceiling. You don’t have to worry about it. It just looks very designery, which it is. Now, around here, we have got, a little drum roll, a walk-in robe and a big en suite, so I’m just going to meet you around there.

Just these louvers again, keep using the word “again” because there’s just so many agains. Aluminium, but look, when you actually close these up, they look just like real wood, fantastic design. I’m going to show you what’s out there in a little minute, but this is a walk-in robe. Plenty of space, lots and lots and lots of space. Just so you believe me when I say that the whole property is a solid, core-filled block house. Bathroom en-suite, it’s huge. We’ve got beautiful sort of round edges. It just feels lovely.
Huge vanity, really big vanity. Lovely loo, fresh loo. Again, the same design element from the other bathroom. Those little decals in there, big space, no glass, liberating in the morning. Then we’ve got a drain up and down here as well, so you’re not actually standing on a drain. If we come around this way so you can actually have a look at these beautiful plants out here. This, come this way, is a cattery. A cattery. Yes, it’s a cattery. This is a little spot where it’s totally safe. It’s totally enclosed.
Your little cats, if you’ve got cats or maybe even a little dog, can actually come in and out quite happily. We’ve got a little secret gate here that opens out back out into the garden so you can get in and out, but it’s safe. It’s enclosed. We’ve got a little cat flap here too that your little loved ones can come in and out. I just can’t get over. We’re outside and it’s bright. You come in here and it’s just as bright. It’s just beautiful. We’re going to head down that little surprise.

What a fabulous, little secret. More cupboards just as we come down here. This, we call them granny flats, guest accommodation. This is totally inspired. This is absolutely self-contained. If you had family or friends or Airbnb or short-term stay, this would be absolutely perfect, totally separate to the rest of the house. Up in the main part of the house, we’ve clearly got the master bedroom with its own en suite.
We’ve got the second bedroom there that has the so-called family bathroom. Really, each bedroom has its own bathroom. It’s big. It’s spacious. We have a bathroom just in here. Again, very similar style to the other bathrooms. This one, I think, is actually bigger. If we come in here, we’ve got– Oh, this is nice. This is like fairy princess stuff. We’ve got beautiful, little bits here. Just pop your head in here so you can see.
We’ve got a big shower. Even the tiles, they are not just flat, boring. Not that the tiles are boring when they’re flat, but, again, attention to detail. That’s just lovely. Very, very nice, little extra touch. We have a utility sink here. Also, it’s got its own laundry. If somebody was staying for a little bit longer, they can put all their washing in there, feel like they’re in their own little world. Of course, they can sleep in another really lovely room.
We’re looking out to the garden. We’ve got fruit and veggies over there, which I’ll show you. We are absolutely surrounded by rainforests, so you can imagine your guests waking up here. You can’t hear anything. It is absolutely silent. Looking out to there, privacy, privacy, privacy. More slidy robes. Again, look at that. Just immaculate. This is just such a beautiful, brilliant spot. We’ve got our own patio area out here as well. Very similar. Again, all the design, it’s all been thought through.
I did say at the beginning that there is zero wood in the property. That is in the construction. We’ve got a couple of little bits here because I think it just looks lovely, a little bit organic, and plenty of prep, plenty of place to just put your bits and your bobs. You can sit on your little here if you’ve got some two or three or four or five people around, but I can guarantee, you’d be spending your time right at that very front door. This is magic.

Isn’t that just a beautiful vista. Now, the whole thing is just super exciting, but here’s another brilliantly exciting thing. We are, believe it or not, totally off-grid. Yes. Can you believe that? Yes, we are totally off-grid. There is absolutely mains power to the property. When you came in at the beginning, you probably would have seen the bore and the bore pump, which is beautiful drinking water.
That is on mains power. The mains power is here, but the inspiration and the design of this particular property was to be completely self-sufficient, off-grid. We don’t have to use power if we don’t want to. This is what we actually see here. It’s state-of-the-art as you would expect. A couple of inverters in there. We’ve got panels on the roof, which we’re going to have a look at, 28 of them in total.
This is a very high-end solar system, roughly 9 kVA, so you can run your house. You can run anything that you want. No power bills, zero power bills. How magic is that? Now, this just gets more exciting. When we came in at the beginning, which is just around there, the driveway, we’ve seen some fencing up the top. Wait till you see up here. Massive 60-square meter roof deck. I’m going to go up there. I’m going to get you up there and I’m going to come up and meet you. Brilliant.

Unbelievable, zero-maintenance, aluminium, concrete. Now, this. Why would you buy this property? Well, I’m getting ahead of myself. We have got this fabulous design house. Then on top, can you believe this? It’s roughly 60 square meters. Below us, which is the garage or the garages, we will have a look at that in a minute, we’ve got a suspended concrete floor. It’s about 200-mil thick.
If you wanted to put a gazebo or something on top here, which would just be out of this world, already you’ve got a party deck, already you’ve got a Pilates studio, already you’ve got an observation deck. The other thing too that you’ll have noticed is all the way around here, there are no trees overhanging the property. Maintenance is gone. Look at this. You still got all the beautiful– just beautiful rainforest, but we don’t have to contend with any of it.
Now, this. Again, I’m going to show you this. Our solar panels are here. Now, some people might go, “Oh, Angela, why are you showing me the top of the roof?” This is really, really, really important. You’ll never have seen this ever. We’ve got about 28 solar panels with our two inverters on this high-end solar system. Check out this roof. There are no roof screws. Yes, you heard me correctly. There are no roof screws.
This is commercial-grade quality, click, click, click on your suspended concrete floor with little gutters that go along the end. You are not going to be a slave to cleaning your roof. You’re not going to be a slave to re-roofing rusty roof screws. Look, there’s none. There’s just none. You can walk on it. Absolutely amazing. You’re just taking this view from the top of your own little world. This is beautiful bit of garden there. Not a lot of grass.
We will go into the garden in just a minute, but you’re going to have your life as you want it. Whoops, I’m coming here and have all the time in the world just to relax. This is sensational, absolutely sensational. I did mention for about the 14th time, about 60 square meters. The house under roof, just so that you get a sense, is about 357 square meters. Big house. Big, brilliant deck. Now, we are going to head downstairs and we’re going to have a look at those garages and a quick walk around the garden before we do a wrap-up.

Two of these doors are electric. [imitates buzzing sound] I’ll show you that in just a half a second. That’s for the cars and this third bay is a little workshed. How brilliant is that? Here we go. Concrete block. Again, we’ve got our louver windows in there and it’s all totally enclosed, so all the space that you would need. If you wanted to put up a 10-bay shed on this property, there is enough space for you to do that.
I’m going to show you because this is just a brilliant, little knob-button thing. I’m not going to go in that way. Come this way. The little side door that we had at the beginning is how we’d come in and out of the garage. We drive in if it’s raining, open the door, come in, come out here, and you’re straight into your kitchen. Come in here. We can see. We have got, again, concrete floor, all concrete. That’s the other single-garage workshed on this side.
We’ll do a little dance around here. A laundry in the garage, which is always brilliant, super handy. It doesn’t matter if water gets everywhere or you put little bits and bobs around the place, but watch this. See this here? This is a brilliant remote thumb. There’s even a little– Hey, how is that? There’s a little thumb blob thing on that remote there and it opens and closes both doors, so design. Going to close it and it’ll come back down again. There we go. How good is that? Quick look in the garden and I’ll do a wrap-up.

I can’t stop looking at the whole design and the luxury and the simple lines of that just beautiful house. Veggie area. This is totally, totally, totally netted. We’ve got bananas. We got sweet potato and passion fruit like you would not believe. Oh, look at that. Look at that chilies. That is brilliant. Now, this just means that you don’t actually have to share all your food with the animals because they will love you for it. If this was all open, you’d have no pawpaws left.
They’d probably even have a look at the chilies and they’d certainly love your pineapples, there we go, within the far north Queensland tropics. Yes, we can grow pineapples. The passion fruit, just hanging off the vine everywhere. Just amazing. We’re going to have a quick look around at that little shed at the back and that quick wrap-up. More passion fruit. Oh wow, there’s just absolutely– Look, huge amounts of passion fruit. Now, this is chopped-up mulch, organic rainforest fodder, and that gets shovelled from there into all your lovely veggies.
Plenty of goodness. The pile will get smaller, but it just saves you having to buy anything other than what was actually chopped down and mulched through on your own garden. Little lean to shed up over here so that if you’re right on mower or anything else that you want, you can just pop in here. You can see all the gardens are totally, totally usable and easy care and easy to walk around. I’m going to meet you back up on that fabulous day for a quick wrap-up.

I really hope you’ve enjoyed this tour of our 2b Fairyland Road in Kuranda. Hopefully, I’ve been able to share just how fabulous, and I mean fabulous property. This actually is low-maintenance, zero-maintenance. There’s never such a thing as zero-maintenance. When you put everything into perspective, it is almost a zero-maintenance house and a very low-maintenance garden surrounded by beautiful rainforest.
This deck, I could just imagine, I didn’t mention this before, like a big spa. You could just sit in here and just relax and oodle because you got all your pool fencing around the boat. Just plop a spa there. Remember, that’s about 200-mil concrete flooring, which is above the garages. Location is terrific. You can walk to Kuranda State School, so if you’ve got children.
If you’re downsizing, wow, you could just come here and just be literally relaxed. All the trees have been chopped away from the house, so you don’t have shade. You don’t have leaves, you just– I keep going on about it, but it’s absolutely fabulous but off-grid. Wow, off-grid. No power. Just all the things that you ever imagined in your wildest dreams and, of course, fabulous quality builds.
