Angela Martin: Hi, I’m Angela Martin and welcome to nearly number 25 Platypus Close in Kuranda. What I wanted us to do today was show you, and it’ll take one minute in the car, just how gorgeously elevated. This pole home is enchanting, magical end of a no-through road, and just like a rainforest retreat, which is exactly what you need at this point in time in your life, I’m sure.
If we have a look on the roads, so we’re on Masons Road. We’ve just turned left from Masons Road into around Platypus Close, and then we just go up the hill there, and your property is a bit over in that direction. Let’s just jump in the car, and I can show you just how beautiful, and elevated, and breezy your new home is going to be. Let’s jump in.
I really just wanted us to have a look at the elevation and the other quality homes that we have. Two hands on the wheel. This is dress circle Kuranda. I use that word because location is everything. Look at that, that’s just gorgeous. House number one, it’s beautiful. You can see that we just wind all the way up.
It’s hard to imagine that we’ve got mains power, we’ve got town water, we can go into Kuranda Village for a cup of coffee. Yes, we’re just about to head into our own little house. Isn’t that a beautiful garden? Wow, that’s just gorgeous. What about to hang into our little oasis so that, at the end of the day, you can just come home and relax.
Another beautiful pole home just off to the left and you get a sense– Let’s have a look up here, we’re heading up into a rainforest, gorgeous bamboo. That was a lovely house up in there too. We get the sense that we’re going into our own little environment. You can see the rainforest, rainforest, rainforest. We get to the end of the cul-de-sac, which is no-through road and totally private. Here we are, just right there, “Hey, honey, I’m home.” We are going to go and have a good old explore.
[music]
We are at the top of our very own hill. Now, there’s a couple of properties at the top of the cul-de-sac. Your property starts pretty much where I’m standing now. We just come in the driveway and it goes around there. We’ve got our own little electric box. Again, because of where we are in Australia at the moment, I want to show you everything so that you can– And that’s one of the reasons I came up the drive there, Platypus Close, was so that you could get a sense of what the actual other house is and what the other neighborhood areas look like.
This is just glorious. It was built in about 2004, and the same owners have lived here, and they designed it, and they built it, so it’s a one-owner property. With pole homes, you actually cannot get any better than that. Can you feel the breeze? I’m sure you can. It’s beautiful. Let’s go in the main living area.
We’re going to have a look at the views. If you can imagine the size of the property, we said was about 3 acres, and it runs that way, but the views are just stunning. This is all about the rainforest views and, of course, this gorgeous little magical pole home in the rainforest. Let’s go in and have a look.
[music]
This is super exciting. One of the first things that we whence upon is an inbuilt spa, which we will look at once we come back throughout the house, but that can be heated to about 40 degrees. You can just imagine how fabulous that would be. Little things, look at this piece of wood here on this servery.
It’s not straight, it’s organic, and everybody knows that I love organic. The house is made from turpentine poles, and cypress, and tongue, and groove . The actual construction is mega, mega strong, and as I said, the people who live here are the ones who actually built it around about 2004, so it’s not an old house.
We don’t even really need to do orientation because we can see just how magical it is. Little things like the light sparkling. Look at that, that’s just brilliant. We’ve got the high ceilings, we’ve got magic living area, and of course, we look out to the rainforest, and we will go out there. Then we’ve got two bedrooms.
Bedroom number one has got air conditioning and sliding robes. Bedroom number two, and then, of course, we’ve got the bathroom and a separate toilet. Then around here, we’ve got the laundry area and that mezzanine, oh my goodness. When we go up there and we look down here, it just sparkles and would just be perfect either bedroom or if you painted or you just wanted to meditate or do a little bit of yoga or just have it as a music space.
It is just inspiring because that behind us is the view, show you in a minute. Let’s start off with the kitchen, wooden kitchen. Again, we have that super-duper-yummy tactile feel, and the house is immaculate. When I say immaculate, they’ll normally open the under-sink cupboards, but you can see how well this property has been looked after.
Of course, little tongue and groove joints. I’m sure there’s a name for it but handmade doors. Cute, cute, cute-as cooker. I love that cooker. Normally, cookers are really big, and people are impressed by big cookers, but this just fits in beautifully into the surround and it makes sense. Of course, we have got plenty of space for all your yummy foods in your pantry and again, this is gorgeous.
Sometimes you get things that are all lacquered or they’re all heavily painted or they’re all heavily oiled, but this just feels natural. I don’t know if you can feel that in the film, but it just feels lovely. We did mention about these turpentine poles, and it’s hard to imagine that this one, I think, was roughly 15 meters in length, so it goes all the way up to the top.
The poles go at least 2 meters into the ground in concrete, so that was one very big beautiful tree at some point in time as you can imagine, my goodness. Heading off into bedrooms. I love that color. Not everybody likes purple, but I think that’s just a bit sensational. Bedroom number one or bedroom number two, bedroom number three, whatever you want to call it, if you use your mezzanine as a bedroom, but it has rainforest views.
This property is 1000% private. We’re lying here in bed and we are looking out at that. We’ve got fly screens. As I said, we’ve got air conditioning so you can close everything up if you want. Why would you? Because that is just unbelievable. The bird song and there’s a butterfly, it’s just beautiful. Just take half a minute, breathe that in, and then we’ll go have a look at the other rooms.
[music]
Fantastic views everywhere you look. I know that we’re looking at a beautiful turpentine pole, but when we come back out these rooms, everywhere you look is green. It is rainforest and gorgeous. Cupboard two, have a look in here. We got plenty of whole cupboard storage space.
Another bedroom in here, again, with air conditioning. We got sliding robes all mirrored, and the one next to the main bedroom or this bedroom, they’re both the same. Here we go, close that off, but doesn’t matter where you look. Blue sky, puffy clouds, and we feel like we are in the rainforest canopy. It’s just glorious.
[music]
Then there’s the toilet. We can’t all fit in there, so you just have a little baby look and then, of course, the main bathroom.
[music] I’m just fascinated by these poles. They’re so tactile. Again, if we look this way, I know that you are probably going to find a little bit hard with the exposure, but I need you to feel what it’s like to be in this room and to be able to be just surrounded by rainforest. We’ve got a rainforest view there and we have our entrance into the property just here, but this is really exciting part we’re going to head up to the mezzanine. Before we do, spacious laundry area.
Now, if you have a look, we’ve got older-style stainless steel sink, which is brilliant because you can clean it. It doesn’t have that plasticky stuff that just all disappears. Again, stainless steel splashback. Plenty of space under here. Again, another little– Oops, that’s where the ducted tubing is for the air conditioner, but you still got plenty of space for your brooms and all your bits and your bobs and the– Oops, we may as well have a little lookout here before we go upstairs. Those lovely wooden doors again, I just love them.
This takes us out to the back area of the house. This is where we are. This is where we came in. We came in the main driveway and we walked in through that way, but we are now going to head back to the mezzanine upstairs which is just– Oh, isn’t that a lovely color? That’s just a gorgeous color, blue. Blue is actually quite a common color in the rainforest because you have cassowaries and you have the fruits of some of the big trees like the quandongs and of course, we got blue out there as a little sitting area, but we’re going to head up there. Just be careful as you climb up and we’re going to have a feel for what that space can be. It’s exciting.
[music]
Those steps, I love them. You maybe change your steps or put a little handrail up in there if you wanted to, but this is just beautiful. Again, we have the tongue and groove which is the bits that all join together as a Cypress. The floor, you know, I go on about quality and I go on about how well maintained a property is and the quality of a floor you can always tell how much use it’s had and this is just brilliant condition. Again, tongue and groove, nice and strong, but the view, you have a look over here. It gives you a sense of just calmness sense of scale. I love those sparkly lights.
They just give it a little bit of decadence if you like in amongst the rainforest, but this room could easily be another bedroom. You could put a bit of lattice up there, or if you just lived on your own or it was just yourself and your partner, it would not matter, not one bit. Again, we have rain forest views. The whole house is screened so you don’t have to worry about bugs and beasties. I don’t know if you can hear that bird song. Absolutely amazing and this is what it’s about. It’s about little tree house in the rain forest. This is just glorious. We’re going to head out to that balcony and just absorb more of that rainforest energy.
[music]
This is the super exciting part. Well, that’s pretty exciting because it’s a beautiful pole home but look at this. Come over here and just lean on your little balcony, balustrading whatever you want to call it. This is glorious, absolutely glorious. You can imagine just sitting here, a couple of bar stools, maybe you could even put something out for little birdies, a little birdseed, and they’d just come and they’d just little finches would munch away and I can guarantee that you will see– Oh, you feel that breeze? Oh, glorious. In the summer, in Far North Queensland, having a breeze like that is like everyone’s dream.
You’re going to have blue butterflies, Ulysses butterflies, Cairns’ birdwing butterflies, and of course, little wallabies galore that will come through your brilliant part of the world. Now we mentioned about three acres of rainforest. We run about 300 meters, that’s about 300 meters a third of a kilometer in that direction and that is all yours. Nobody is going to build there. Nobody’s going to build there and spoil your view and of course, your privacy and your sanctuary and then on this side, which we have the bedroom and of course the living area, we’ve got at least another roughly 50, 60 meters.
The little house has been built up that top right-hand corner as we look down so about 300 by about 70 in total, that is meters. It’s there it’s yours. It is just a magical, special part of the world. Where else in the world apart from world heritage tropical Far North Queensland could you experience this? Just have a look at that view and we’re going to have a quick look at the spa before we do a wrap up
[music]
I did promise you the little baby spa. Love, love, love, love. Okay, come on in. You could just imagine after you have had your coffee in the morning overlooking your beautiful rainforest or you’ve just finished painting a picture up in your art studio on your mezzanine level feeling all the yummy energies, and then at the end of the day, come have a look. Ooh, look we got a baby frog. That’s what living in the rainforest is all about. We just press a little button, I’m not going to take it all off, but that would be brilliant and I think I mentioned before that you can actually heat it too.
I think it’s about 38 or 40 degrees so you can use that. Oh, nice, nice and warm, pretty much all year round. What a fantastic way to finish the day, not that you’re going to be stressed because you’re going to have been in your property, but if you’re commuting to Cairns, this is what you’re going to look forward to. We’re just going to do a bit of a quick look around under the house so you get a feel for what that’s like, and then we’re going to wrap up.
[music]
I promised that we’d show you under the house. That’s the septic system. Everyone in Kuranda, except for people in the village, actually have septic. That’s what that is if you’re looking at it on the film or on the photographs. You can see the size of those poles, absolutely huge. Hard to imagine that they could actually have been felled from the property itself because we have some really big rainforest trees in the background that is part of your view.
If you notice the silver on the top parts, it’s a high tech silver paint and it’s there just to help protect against sun, literally sunburn like we put on a zinc cream. That’s a bit like zinc cream for posts. It looks like they are in two separate sections but they’re actually one great big long posts. It’s just a bit magical really. We’re going to head up to that balcony and we’re going to do a quick wrap up.
[music]
I think I might have just been sprung relaxing on your relaxation deck overlooking your beautiful, beautiful rainforest. Why would you buy this property? Well, I’d say it’s pretty obvious. If you want seclusion and you want privacy and you want everything to do with nature, you’re not going to find any better and of course, it’s one owner. Again, it’s been brilliantly looked after. Three acres, you are looking at your very own three-acre property, but you could walk if you wanted to or if you have a pushbike, you could actually go into Kuranda village for a coffee, for Sunday breakfast. You just have the best of both worlds, the best of probably 20 worlds actually depending on what you want to do.
This house is just– It’s calm, it’s peaceful and it’s calm. I know that I use that word a lot, but you really have to be here to experience and feel what that is like and of course, even just sitting on a little sofa, having your tea in the morning or reading a book. You cannot hear anyone and I’m really glad that we jumped in the car at the beginning because we had that sense of elevation and of course you can see the breezes. It’s inspiring.
