Angela Martin: Hi, I’m Angela Martin, and welcome to Number 14 Platypus Close in Kuranda. Super excited today because we have the ultimate low-maintenance but cosmopolitan lifestyle in an absolutely glorious 2.1 very private acres of rainforest, your very own part of the world, beautiful world heritage rainforest. The property has been lovingly maintained and looked after by the very same owners who designed it and built it in approximately 2009. We’re going to go in and we’re going to have a look.
Take it all in, but before we do, when you press that little Subscribe button, don’t forget to press the notification bell and you will be informed and notified when we have more magnificent lifestyle properties just like this one. Let’s go in and have a look. You’re going to seriously fall in love with it.
[music]
As we go in, you are not actually going to believe just how gorgeous this three-bedroom house is and, of course, we have a luxury swimming pool. Should I be saying that at this point? Yes, I certainly can. We’ve come in just very short driveway, but it curves round and genuinely, if you walk up and down Platypus Close or you drive up and down Platypus Close, you would not know that there was a house in here, and this belies what is actually behind. Let’s come through.
We talked about low-maintenance. In the tropics, having a low-maintenance property is just everyone’s perfect dream. It means that you can come home at the end of the day, and you’re not a slave to either your house or your garden, and you can instantly feel the tropicalness and the gorgeousness. This is what the property feels like. It’s all about bromeliads and walkways and little swimming pool. We’ll have a look at that as we go in, but just have a look here. This is glorious. We’ve got tiger grass, bromeliads on the fence. The outside of the fence has been made to be quite nondescript, if you like. Again, from that privacy point of view, and then you come in and we’re starting on this wonderful little oasis.
Before we go into the house, we’ll have a little bit of a quick sneak peek down that swimming pool. We will go down and we’ll spend a little bit of time under the house. Wood, metal, and all things cosmopolitan is exactly what this house is about. I want you to look, we’re going to go into a lot of details so that you can buy with confidence if you are interstate, I want us to look at this walkway. You may go, “Oh,” and the wood looks a little bit worn, looks a little bit weathered. It has been designed to feel organic. That’s ironbark is hard, is hard, is hard as can be and yes, it’s just been made to look like a jetty, which works beautifully.
You’re now in your own little oasis. I want you to just breathe in, take in those gorgeous colors, and we are going to have an explore on the inside of the house.
[music]
You’re getting a sense of relaxation. Hopefully, you are getting a sense of being in your own little oasis, in your own little world, and the blood pressure just stops. It doesn’t stop, it just goes down as soon as you come in because you are just surrounded through every single window by garden. I don’t know if you can see this at that point, but we will go out there, it is filled with beautiful, beautiful bromeliads, and it’s open and it’s spacious and you have the rainforest as your backdrop. It truly is amazing.
We’re going to have a quick walk around here because I want to show you and I’m going to start with kitchens, but the wood that has been used, remember I said the people who currently own it and built it and designed it we’re actually builders. Everything has been humongously over-engineered and every little attention to detail has been looked at. The woods, that’s New Guinea rosewood and, of course, the bifolds, they open completely. Again, you’ve got the outdoor-indoor living. We’ve got doors that go down to the side. We’ll have a look at that in a little bit of minute.
This I think is fabulous. We have bifold doors and we have essentially stainless steel balustrading that really does let you feel as if you are out where you are in your own rainforest. You’ve got plenty of breeze, you’ve got plenty of cross ventilation and you have literally living orchids, everything. Whoops, I might get into trouble for that, oh dear. It doesn’t look like it was– I haven’t killed anything. Won’t say anything to the owners. You’re going to have access to all those beautiful, beautiful rainforest twigs and little bits that come off your plants.
Kitchen, completely gorgeous. This is where the cosmopolitan feel actually comes in because brilliant, bright colors. This could just easily be beige or cream, which is still gorgeous in the tropics, but there is a vibrancy to having all those little individual colors on the– I love that. Just love it. It pops. We’ve got black, we got our gas cooking, completely lovely, lovely benchtops, and all the functionality of modern soft-close drawers. Probably shouldn’t open people’s drawers, but there we go. The whole kitchen is like that. You can get lots and lots and lots of things into your drawers and, of course, there’s pantry. These slide out.
Again, I won’t necessarily open people’s cupboards, but big pantry here. Comes all the way out that distance and same on that side as well. You have plenty of space. Now, before we have a little look at the other rooms, I want you just to turn round and have a look at the stunning color just out there in that bromeliad garden.
[music]
We spoke about the timbers. Just have a little look again at the detail before we look at these rooms. We have rainforest hardwood timbers on the rafters. We have got mixed rainforest hardwood on the floors so a little bit of spotted gum, a little bit of eucalypt and, of course, we did talk about the New Guinea rosewood and, of course, the ironbark, all beautifully organic. We have three bedrooms, one bathroom, and a really big laundry. Now, currently, this room is used as an office but is a bedroom. Put a little head in there. Then we’ve got, again, it’s attention to detail.
We get some extra storage up the top too so that you can put your suitcases or whatever it is you would like to put up there, but again, look at the colors. They’re vibrant, absolutely love the colors and I seriously love the color of this bathroom. It’s very unusual that you would see orange that fits in beautifully, but it’s compliment orange and green so it’s no doubt but it does actually work. We have, again, plenty of space. We love a big mirror. Oh, just love the color. Mains water, mains power. We have access to all the luxuries that you would ever want and, of course, we have a really big shower, views out to the garden again with those bromeliads.
We’ll go out there and we will have a look, but when the sun shines on the trees, just have a quick turn around here, I know that the exposure will be a little bit different, but it sparkles. It absolutely sparkles, and you’re in your own little gorgeous house looking out a gorgeous rainforest. Toilet in here, little loo, and the two rooms come in, you can see them that’s where we came in the driveway, but we have built-ins. Again, the built-ins are really lovely.
They’ve got the old VJ feel on them and we have high ceilings and we have fans, and even attention to detail. The doors, they’re not your normal every day flat doors, they have character. I love the feel of this room. It’s angled. Have a look up here, we’ve actually got our louvers that go all the way across. Again, we have plenty, plenty of ventilation. Really big walk-in robe, again, all the angles, plenty of space, plenty of shelves, and a little attention to detail. Not that we want to really dwell in here, but when you have the wood that’s been tapped onto the edges of the shelves, you know that you are in quality hands.
This room feels calm, it feels gorgeous and, of course, have a look up here again, we’ve got all the ventilation and all the louvered windows all the way across the house. Before we head outside and downstairs, little surprise. We’ve got a laundry, and this is big. We’ve got plenty of space for a tub, a dryer, plenty of space, we’ve got plenty of space for a big washing machine and, of course, this comes out onto– Just come out and have a look. This is glorious. Rock garden with bromeliads, and for those people who are really not sure about what a bromeliad is, just Google it, but the bulletproof plants, they will love you for neglect but you can still tittle away and chop them and take off the little dead leaves.
Again, they’ll just love you for it. That’s just beautiful, beautiful color. We’re going to have a quick look there, and then we’re going to head downstairs and we’re going to go to that swimming pool area.
[music]
I know I’m always changing my mind but whilst we’re here, I thought I’d show you, again, this other cute little veggie spot because if you are living this neck of the woods, you are going to want– Can you see in here? We have got plenty of space and it’s all animal-proof. When I say animal-proof, little wallabies which you will get in your garden, they come and they love to have a nibble. Look at that. We’ve got our sweet peas, we’ve got our basil, we’ve got our chives, just all sorts of gorgeousness. Oh, that’s interesting. It’s all here and it’s for you to do with what you will.
Look at these tomatoes, just glorious. Lemongrass up the back there, I think, but you can look forward to it. You could make this bigger. You could actually put all your veggies up here, you could put your veggies up right over there because what’s really important is that where we are at the moment on the block, we’re at this sort of high corner and it goes almost in a bit of a triangle. We’ve got about 120 meters along the front, really big frontage.
If you wanted to utilize bits over here, you certainly could. Pop up here so you can get a feel for this part of the house and then I promise, we’re going to have a look at the swimming pool.
[music]
Wasn’t that beautiful? We are going to just spend another five seconds in here because it feels brilliant. The deck, again, you’ll see it’s in the shade so in the hot tropics, you are going to just have that lovely feeling of coolness and just relaxation, but I did want to mention about the construction. That big steel beams, the house is steel and the equivalent of fiber cement, not fiber cement but cement sheathing, again, very, very strong and we’ve got steel poles, it’s post and beam construction. Again, maintenance, not very much maintenance, but as we come back down a little walkway, I did say that we could come downstairs at the other side, but I just wanted to just show you how gorgeous this is.
This would be your entrance into the house and the pool, well, again, beautiful low-maintenance, really, really, really glorious. Look at the attention to detail on this. This is sparkly and, of course, you’ve got plenty of space here for your cars, but this property is not about cutting grass. It is not about having trucks and trailers and jet skis, this is about rainforest living with just complete and utter luxury. Look at all this. Beautiful, absolutely beautiful. We’ve got little impatiens, I said they are just brilliant plants. You just don’t even have to think about them. I’m going to meet you down there, and we’re going to have a look inside the swimming pool.
[music]
We’re definitely going to get to the swimming pool, just absolutely obsessed with these gorgeous little plants. The garden, as we mentioned a million times now, it’s tropical, it’s rocks, it’s Bali-like, it’s just like the ultimate and low-maintenance, but still plenty of space to do little pottering. This, I love this. The bamboo, that’s a Buddha belly bamboo which is just glorious and, of course, it gets its name from the Buddha belly because they actually swell, where else are you going to find this in the way of tropics, in this gorgeous oasis? This, I think, is a Sumatran black bamboo, that is just stunning.
It’s almost as if you can feel the drop in the temperature when you’re in amongst this because it’s just cool, it’s super-duper cool. Again, natural rainforest, gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous and that’s where we went in, beautiful plants, and this is what we have been waiting for, yay. This is an oasis in itself. You have to be here to feel how gorgeous and cool and relaxing it is. This here is Indian sandstone. When you have got just no shoes on and you’re jumping into the swimming pool, it’s going to feel really marvellous under your feet.
It’s hard to believe, but the water is freshwater so it doesn’t rely on– It’s so good, obviously, the filtration system as you would have with a normal swimming pool, but it’s not relying on lots and lots and lots of chemicals. You’ll find that birds will come in, and it tastes completely neutral, doesn’t even taste very salty. You can jump in there. It’s about 2.1 meters deep. Even the hottest of hot days, you’re going to be able to get your head under the water.
It is just beautiful. Little butterflies over here. Rainforest magnificence in your swimming pool, but here’s the other little thing. If you did want to have a work shed or a workshop, we’ve actually got the perfect scenario under the house. You can be sitting here, having your afternoon refreshment, we put a big table there or you could put a hammock, but this, it’s really deceiving as to how big it is and, of course, it’s all been beautifully retained. You got plenty of space, you don’t feel like you’re hemmed in this little baby nook.
We’ve got room for our saw, we’ve got room for a big table, we’ve obviously got power under here as well, and little bamboo drop-downs just for a little bit of protection from the sun but easily, you could pick that up. You could close it in, but this is, believe it or not, a brilliant work shed.
I know that you do find that hard to believe because on one hand, we are looking at resort swimming pool and then on the other hand, we have got perfect work shed. Just take it in, and then we’re going to go upstairs for a wrap-up.
[music]
It almost just my little imaginations running right here, you could also too if you wanted and you didn’t want a work shed, you could actually just extend that and make that another undercover patio area, a little extra undercover entertaining area. Not that you need it because you have got plenty of space out there, but it’s just just a thought. Of course, these are the steps that take us up to the end of the living room. Again, look at this. We’ve got little baby bead birds in amongst the lichens, the orchids, the climbers. It’s stunning. It’s a living wall or a living tree, of course, tree is living, but everything on it is dependent on it.
You can see that those rainforest walkways all the way through the garden. Remember, we’ve got about at least 100 meters in that direction and we’ve got about 130 meters down that way or down that way, so plenty of space to explore. Of course, fascinated with all these plants, I just think they’re brilliant. Just again, pandanus, but look at the rainforest. This is why you should be buying this property. It’s just magnificent.
[music]
I really hope that you have loved this baby film, this baby tour of oh, amber. Oh my goodness, I’m just going to sit down. Number 14 Platypus Close in Kuranda. Now, I just asked before, why would you buy this property? Well, there’s thousands reasons that you could buy this property or you would want to buy this property. I love the indoor-outdoor living, I love the silence. You love getting out and away from living in a unit or living in a city and just being able to become at one with nature.
Of course, getting out with these little baby bromeliad plants. Look at the landscaping. Everything about it has got cadence and it has a feel. Of course, we’ve got a tropical resort swimming pool. We didn’t mention the location, the location is second to none. You could ride your bicycle into Kuranda village and, of course, you’re only 15, 20 minutes down to Smithfield which is the the main shopping area. You’ve got Bunnings, you’ve got Coles, you’ve got Woollies, you’ve got everything you need.
Cosmopolitan, low-maintenance, steel construction and a whole oasis, just magnificent. Please give me a call, Angela Martin, 0403-788-187. Visit the website, angelamartin.tv.
