Angela Martin: Hi, I’m Angela Martin, and welcome to Number 14 Kullaroo Close in Kuranda. This magic little property, it’s a hidden, private, little tropical oasis with an easy walking distance to Kuranda Village literally just up in that direction. It is phenomenally– is that a word? Yes, phenomenally flexible because upstairs and downstairs are two very separate self-contained living areas. You could live upstairs, brilliant, and you could have extended family downstairs, brilliant, or you could actually have extra income renting perhaps downstairs or Airbnb. From an investment point of view, this would just be beyond brilliant because you could have two sets of tenants for a fabulous return, so let’s go in and have an explore.
[music]
I just wanted to do a little bit of orientation before we actually head inside. Now, we came in Kullaroo Close under the carport. We’ve also got, just to add to that extra flexibility, a second entrance with the same wooden double gates just here so you could bring your car in here, for example, if you wanted to just rent out or have a separate living area underneath. Upstairs is– When you come up those stairs there is an original feel house.
You will see when we go in, it’s just filled with character. We actually have original linoleum on the floor from yesteryear, but it does have a renovated bathroom. It’s two bedrooms, kitchen, bathroom, and big living area, and its own little private deck. When we had a quick look at the garden, there was another deck on the other side, which we will explore. That all becomes part of upstairs living.
Then on contrast, downstairs, that has all been completely renovated. It has beautiful concrete and polished floors, it has a modern kitchen, it has a modern bathroom, and it has bedroom with a little second bedroom nook area and, of course, a really, really, really big living space. That was rented out quite comfortably as an Airbnb. We’re just going to have a bit of a sneak peek down in there because it has a lot of furniture and storage in there from upstairs. We’re going to head up those stairs and we’re going to have a look upstairs.
[music]
Upstairs is cool and it’s breezy and it is filled with natural light, which in the wet tropics is fabulous. Now, we talked about the house upstairs being completely original and you can tell that from the original tiles that are on the balcony. I did say about the linoleum. It’s actually groovy. It’s probably worth a billion dollars. You probably can’t even find antique linoleum like this anymore, but you will feel the size and space in this room.
We’ve got plenty of windows. Of course, we’re looking out into gorgeous tropical garden. That is Kullaroo Close, easy walk distance into Kuranda. We’ve got a kitchen there that we’ll have a quick look at and a little balcony at the back. Then we’ve got our two bedrooms and the bathroom and the bathroom has been renovated. You can imagine if it’s a renovator’s delight or if you just want to buy it, do it up, resell it. Brilliant, brilliant opportunity.
New flooring, flooding floor, a bit of paint, and we’re ready to go. Original-style doors, plenty of space there for all your little bits and bobs, but check out the size of this bedroom. This is a big room. Again, I’ve kept the lights off so that you can see how much light comes in. Plenty of breeze and we’ve got the garden coming into the room. If we look at the front too, that’s the little entrance balcony at the top of the stairs, so very, very private.
Then off to the side, we have got the main bathroom, which is just lovely. This looks like rosewood and a little story with this. This bottom shelf was actually cut in just a little bit shorter so that when we got the shadows coming in in the late afternoon, it actually just made this beautiful line like a symmetrical line, so attention to detail. This is great. This is all nice and new modern. We’ve got a toilet and we’ve also got a big shower, so not just a bath. It’s a big bath, but a great, big shower and nice, big white tiles.
Then off to the side, we’ve got the second bedroom upstairs, a little hallway. You don’t actually see hallways very often. Again, look, look at the colors in the garden. We’ve got original built-in robes in the true sense of the word, but just have a little look over here at that view. We’re going to go down into the garden, but this really just makes it look sensational. You feel like you are in the tropics, but we’ll have a look at that from the balcony. We’re just going to head back from there. I’m going to meet you in the kitchen.
[music]
You’re going to love the color in here. It’s gorgeous sun canary yellow. Remember, a pot of paint, $40. Let’s have a look. Completely functional, cooker works. It’s actually Smeg gas cooker. Yes, it’s a Smeg gas cooker. Beautiful and clean, good condition. We’ve got magic double stainless steel sink and all the cupboards work in and out without any problem, so they open and close.
Bunnings kitchens are not expensive. If you were an investor and you wanted to just give a bit of a quick remodel or you literally could just live in it or rent in it as is because, again, it’s bright. Now, we’re heading out onto this little balcony here. You feel like you are in your own little world. We talked about original tiles. I don’t know how old they would be, but they have that unique look and feel. Almost like a bit of a retro feel.
Look at the sight into the garden. Within a walking distance to Kuranda Village for your brekkie, for your coffee, for food works, for your medical center, for your post office is just priceless. You really would not know that you had neighbors in the street. It’s just got a really, really lovely feel. Again, from an orientation point of view, this is part of the downstairs.
We have a little– not a balcony, but like a little lean to a little undercover entertaining area for downstairs, which is great. Of course, if we have a look over here, this is completely paved. I want you to get the look of the lily pond. We will go down and have a look at the lily pond, but that’s just magic. You can imagine the lily flowers. These stairs go down into the laundry, so we’ll just head down there and we’ll have a bit of a quick look.
[music]
Oh, glad I polished my shoes. I think you probably see my shoes coming down the stairs. Now, the two ways that we can get up into the house. When we come in the carport, we come up the front. We came in the balcony and then we walked through the house and then this is the back section. If you wanted just to have it, say, for example, as a house-house, well, you can lock the back door and you could probably– I don’t know for sure, but you could probably just knock a little hole through there and then you have got upstairs, downstairs without any problem at all.
We talked about functionality and utility. Now, If you’re hanging up your washing in the wet tropics, this is a brilliant spot for it. You got a fan directly above, so your washing is probably going to dry without any problem. The other thing I want you to look at is the magic polished concrete. This goes all the way through into the other separate, self-contained, two-bedroom area, which we will go and have a look at. Again, utility, I can go on about the endless amounts of flexibility that this property has to offer. Hopefully, now, you’re getting a sense and your little imagination is running riot. We’re going to have a bit of a quick peek underneath that way, but we’re going to go around that way.
[music]
We’re going to head right– [gasps] Actually, before we head back inside, we’re here and we’re in the garden and it’s gorgeous and it’s sparkly, so let’s just have a bit of a quick look through. Rectangular in size, we’re about fraction, over a quarter of an acre, so about 1,200-ish square meters. If you are a mad gardener or you want to grow some little fruits and some veggies, you still have plenty of space to do it.
The gingers and the– Oh, look at this frangipani. That will have beautiful flowers and beautiful smells that comes out a couple of times a year. Gorgeous, gorgeous flowers. Then, of course, look at all the tropical colors of the cordylines, all the tropicalness of the fan palms. Licualas, they’re called, and they are just glorious. Look at that. I got the shade. Then we have little walkthrough, little winds of ponds, bananas growing here.
Who would think? I mentioned this before about being able to walk into time and you really do feel as if you are in your own private tropical part of the world, which you are. Palm trees, gorgeous little dracaenas, and then we have a little– This is a great little bit here. How romantic is this? We have got– Imagine at the end of the day, a couple of chairs, just sitting, relaxing, or being able to just enjoy any time of day or a little fire. We’ve got a little wood.
Look at this. Just take half a minute of a really busy, busy day to actually come home and– Ah, look at these, look at these, look at these. Look at this heliconia. It’s a heliconia, I think, but look at all the flowers coming out. That’s like something out of the botanic gardens. The birds, can you hear the birds in the background? We’re going to have wallabies. You’re going to have birds. You’re going to have butterflies. You’re going to get a lot of natural, natural fauna, not flora that comes into the garden.
Then we’ve got this other little gorgeous– I think they’re called parrot beaks. Look at that dangling. Ah, they’re furry and velvety. It’s nature at its best. Then, of course, we have got all these other beautiful plants and just tropical oasis. It goes just easy-care garden, really easy-care. We get a view up to the back of the house from here. Again, this was the upstairs kitchen and we came downstairs into the back laundry.
Then we had a little look at the lily pond, and then that was where we started off at the actual entrance to underneath, which we will definitely get to. I just want to show you how gorgeous this actually is. This is a bit special. We’ve got some– looks like passion fruit vine on the old Hills Hoist. Look at this, little tendrils, so you can imagine when this is all grown. Again, passion fruit are really prolific and you’re going to get dangly, fresh passion fruit pretty much all year round. It’s just beautiful.
The garden goes up to there and then these again. You got Medenilla. You’ve got all those gorgeous, little tree ferns, but look at the color. Look at the color. The current owners are clearly brilliant gardeners, but all you got to do is cut the grass, chop back, prune a couple of little bits a couple of times a year, or make it your own, but it is a fabulous, fabulous feel. We are now going to head around and have a very, very, very quick look underneath.
[music]
Can you believe that’s a– Oh, that’s a citrus tree. I don’t know if it’s lemon or a lime, but look at the size of that fruit tree. It’s been there for a very long time. We’re going to have a bit of a very, very, very quick look through the bottom section of the property. I want you to take particular notice of the polished floor, the new kitchen. Then as we come through, you’ll come up these fabulous organic steps that are just, I think, brilliant.
Then we got a bedroom off to one side, bathroom off to the other, and then we go up into what would be a second bedroom, but that bedroom actually has two other entrances into it. Again, hopefully, you’re getting the sense of the unbelievable amount of flexibility in this property. Remember, we have lots of stuff in here, so we’re just going to do a bit of a very quick walkthrough.
[music]
I really hope you enjoyed this little baby tour of Number 14 Kullaroo Close in Kuranda. Before we do a wrap-up, I’ve actually just seen a couple of little guppy fish in here in the pond and they’re absolutely fabulous. You put your little finger in and all the fish come up. They think it’s food. You can put goldfish in there, but it’s just water lilies, guppies, goldfish, just all very beautiful. Why would you buy 14 Kullaroo Close in Kuranda? Well, the flexibility that I’ve spoken about from the very beginning right at the front of the property is huge.
Now, the gardens are glorious. The location is fabulous. You can walk into town. With the rental market being so unbelievably tight all over Australia at the moment, this would be prime picking for an investor who could have upstairs rented, you can have downstairs rented. We have got numerous ins and outs of the property, so you really could configure it any way you wanted, or if you wanted a big family home, you can have your upstairs, downstairs, your extended family. This was absolutely, successfully rented out as an Airbnb.
If you look online, there’s some probably beautiful furnishings showing little romantic curtains. It was always, always popular, and– and– there’s always “and’s,” if you just wanted to live upstairs and have it rented downstairs, you could do that too, or you could just renovate it and live in it and love it and enjoy it, or you could just live in it and love it, but brilliant part of the world and the gardens are stunning, absolutely stunning.
