Angela Martin: Hi, I’m Angela Martin, and welcome to Number 14 Coconut Grove in Kuranda. What a beautiful address. I am so excited about showing you this property today because it’s a tree house and it is magical, absolutely magical. It has been architecturally inspired and created with love and with passion so that the outside has a modern and contemporary feel and look, but the inside is warm, it’s rustic, it has got exotic woods, it’s got recycled timbers so that it feels like a tree house in the rainforest, a true sanctuary.
Of course, the location is brilliant. We are at the end of a no through road, so it’s peaceful and it’s quiet, and it is ultimately private. All of that on a whopping 4,400 square meters. Let’s go in and have a good old look. Before we do, press that notification bell and subscribe button if you want to find that bit more fabulous lifestyle properties just like this one. This is brilliant.

Isn’t this magical? Absolutely. Unexpected and just beautifully nestled in amongst the rainforest. Now, this property is unashamedly all about the rainforest and, of course, beautiful tree house. I just wanted to show us from the outside. We actually have, on the ground level, it’s a self-contained apartment and we are not going to start there. We are going to go up those stairs and we’re going to go up into the main house. Believe it or not, believe it or not, and I’ll go on about this, from the top to the bottom, it’s about 11 meters high. You really do get the sense that you are in amongst the trees and the birds and the butterflies. We’re going to head up those stairs and we’re going to go into that main living area. It is just magnificent.
[music]
Welcome, welcome, welcome. Before we go in, love the red wall. Absolutely love the red wall. Look at this. Just look at this. We are one level up, and before we even get into the house, steel posts, low maintenance, but beautiful organic feel. We’re in the trees, we are in amongst the trees. If you are a nature lover and you just want this quiet sanctuary feel peaceful life, this is stunning. We are not even upstairs at the bedroom yet. Come on in. Of course, we’ve got wood, wood, wood. Look at this. Look at this. This opens up in the kitchen out onto where you will arguably spend the rest of your life on this deck. Look at this main living area. This is beautiful. Just come in and just feel. Come all the way around with me. Come all the way around with me so that you can actually see.
It takes your breath away because you look at it from the outside and as I said, it has that modern and, yes, contemporary, is the right word. It’s a feel but then when you come inside, all of this is meant to be. This has just got character beyond belief. It has got so much life and so much energy. It is just, it’s calm, it’s unbelievably calm. Then of course, upstairs we have got a mezzanine level, which is where you can’t hear anything, which is where when you’re sleeping, you are just going to have this beautiful view and feel that again, you’re in the top of the trees.
We talked about the woods, all the exotic woods, and all the loveliness. We’ve got our cypress floors, beautiful cypress floors. The cladding on the outside and the galvanized iron is also cypress. Check this out. Check this out. Where have you seen there’s so much character and I did talk about love and thought that you have just got something like this. These open right up. Again, you are not looking at any neighbors and no neighbors are looking at you. Ah, just beautiful. Some of these windows, we talked about the recycled, some of these windows are actually silky oak. Anyone who knows that I love my woods, silky oak is a really rare and privileged wood to have actually in your house.
These come from Cairns North High school, years and years and years and years and years ago. Then, of course, we’ve actually got some handcrafted cypress window frames. Then your office nook. Look, look, look at this, this is real. If it was a tree, I’d give it a great big hug, but it actually came from Trinity Wharf years, again. The original Wharf. How many fish and how much water has that seen over the years and has just got such a beautiful tactile, it’s obviously where it was all bolted together. Just a gorgeous tactile feel. Yes, we’ve got our office nook. Then we’ve got a little toilet in here, which got a lovely little mirror. We’ve got a toilet, and again, we’ve got that feature, galvanized iron. Just pop your little head in there.
[music]
With the low maintenance aspect to the house, it actually makes it a joy living in the rainforest because you don’t have to worry about being a slave to your house. Anything that’s filled with complete wood, you’re always trying to cover it and treat it, but this is steel frame so you never have to think about it almost ever again. Then we mentioned about some of the woods up on the actual beams up here. That’s tallow wood. You can see them going up and across there. That again is a rare organic hardwood. Then the kitchen. In the tropics, having a kitchen that is open and easily accessible, and totally airy is brilliant. You can put cupboards in there if you want, but it works and it’s functional. Come and have a look at the life of this.
This has been a hunk of tree that is Melaleuca. It is just absolutely, look at that, beautiful, organic. I use the word organic because we love the word organic. Of course, when does it go out here and move us in from the outside? This opens right up so it has that alternate feeling of space. Of course, we’ve got the high ceilings. Now, how high a ceiling would you like? It’s going to have natural airflow. You’ve got lots of natural light, but it feels warm and absolutely cozy as.
The other thing that you will not have seen, probably nothing ever, ever, ever, but from a design element, look at this. These have got little latches on them so they open all the way out. You are sitting here having your breakfast, you wouldn’t be sitting here having your breakfast you’d be on your balcony sitting having your breakfast, but these open. Look at that. That one’s got a little latch on it. You’re in amongst the rainforest. Look at that tree fern. You’re going to get all sorts of beautiful natives and wallabies. This is just unbelievable. We are going to go up that fabulous spiral staircase and I’m going to meet you up at the mezzanine.
[music]
This is just absolutely brilliant. Where will you find? You cannot go to Bunnings and say, “Oh, I think I might just buy a spiral staircase.” You can’t go to Cairns Hardware or look online and go, “I think I might just buy a spiral staircase.” This has been created again and designed with love, and it is just tactile and it’s absolutely brilliant, and the way through as well. Just have a look down here. We have got all these windows with all the natural light and it’s just capturing the rainforest, so we’re not hemmed in. We feel like we’re in amongst the trees. Look at this. We are in amongst the trees. That’s just special.
Of course, we wake up in the morning and we’re looking at trees, we’re looking out that fabulous window at trees. Just have another look at that window just over here. Beautiful, beautiful aspect. If you want to be happy, wake up, de-stress unreal complete sanctuary. Of course, we have got this magic. I mean, magic bathroom. We’ve got a loo. We’ve got again wood. Love, love, love, love, love the wood. The same set of attention to detail. The same theme coming through. Then we’ve got a shower with another window where you just feel like you are in amongst nature. Just truly beautiful, and the whole lighting in the house is– I use the word calm and I don’t use that word just like banding it around.
It feels calm. It’s subdued, it’s beautiful. Of course by direct contrast, we have the sparkle of the sun in amongst the trees, in amongst the rainforest. Almost feel like I should just be whispering because it is so quiet, but look at this. This is your bedroom. This is your balcony that you may have your morning coffee, or tea or breakkie or something on but that’s probably going to be downstairs. This is just for ultimate– woohoo 11 meters high. Just come and pop your head over here. If you are afraid of heights, this is not for you, but this is just– It’s inspirational.
We are almost at the top of some of these trees. We said about 4,400 square meters. The block runs that way, the property, your property runs that way. At the very back, if you can get to the back of the property, there’s the Barron River. It’s not on this land, but you can actually– I believe you can actually see the river from the back of the property. Say, for example, the property runs here, the river’s here. You could have little walking tracks all the way down through there. More little relaxation spots, little contemplation areas, meditation areas, yoga areas. You could build all your little decks all the way through it. It’s priceless. You cannot put a dollar value on that. Magical.
[music]
Just a reminder, all that is steel frame. Before we head downstairs into that little self-contained apartment, drum roll, I just wanted to show you over at this side of the balcony. Remember, we are at the top. We are about 11 meters top to bottom so that you get a feel for what the little granny flat studio, whatever you want to call it. It has its own balcony. Have a look down there. How magic is that? No words to describe it. Again, trees, trees, trees. We’re going to head downstairs via this. I just love. See, wooden louvers handcrafted, hand-created wooden louvers just up here. We’ve got doors, we’ve got just– Everything has been made with love, and hopefully you’re getting a sense of that. All these little joyous bits. This is meant to be. This is intentional rustic charm, and I love every single bit of it. That is unbelievably priceless, so we’re going to head down through the main living area and we’re going to head right onto the ground floor.
[music]
Come on down. Come on down. I keep going on about privacy. You’ll notice that there’s no curtains, there’s no shades or anything on the windows. Now before we head in here, I’m just going to quickly show you the laundry which is around here along this gorgeous little Trumbull path. In here, it’s completely self-contained. This is our power box, and this is our septic system, and this is– That is the deck for the studio. It is just beautiful. Then we just got a very comfortable functional laundry. You put your little bits in here, your little bits in there, you got utility. It is amply big, and of course, you’ll notice there’s no door so that you don’t have to worry about having anything getting closed up. It’s always got air around it. Just super easy. We are going to head back around that way and we’re going to come back out that door so that you can enjoy again that fabulous rainforest.
[music]
Everything tropical, everything rainforest, world heritage rainforest. Look, you could even put bromeliads or something like that on that tree. That is just beautiful. That’s just nature at its best. We’re going to head in here to our little self-contained studio. Again, gorgeous crafted yummy doors. Let’s have a look in here. Come on in. Ta-da. This is brilliant. Again, all of this is done on purpose. It’s organic. It’s recycled materials. It is character-filled. You cannot buy this in a– This is a relatively new home but you would think it has been here forever. It feels magic. Again, you’re lying in bed. What could you use this room for? Pretty much anything. We’ve got a little kitchen here. These doors open up. You could extend the balcony, from there to there. Then you would have this other great big, fabulous, huge area.
Pop your little head out here so you can see what I mean. Just start over there. We could extend that all the way across here and then again, you’ve got another living outdoor area. Not that you need it. We’ve already got one, two, three massive decks. Then we’ve got again, a little sitting area here. We’ve got a toilet or a bathroom in here. Character filled. I love it. I love it. Big shower. Look at this. Color’s fabulous. We’ve got the wood. We’ve got louvers. We’ve got, again, a view out to the rainforest. We have this space. Look at this. That was alive with leaves and stuff like that on it at some point and it’s been chosen for that width for that shower rail for the towel rail, I should say. It’s just really lovely. Of course, it has got again natural light. It’s got the louvers. It’s got the bi-folds. We’ve got our lovely gal there. Just come out here and have a look at this balcony.
Again, I feel myself whispering because you feel like you’re invading the little birds and the butterflies’ world because it is so quiet. I probably shouldn’t sit down but you can just imagine and light the candle let’s have a glass of wine at the end of the day and we are in amongst this. Then if we have a look up here, we can see the two other balconies, this one with the main living area and of course the one up in the master bedroom.
Then all the little nooks that come out off the side of the house. This doesn’t just happen. It’s created. It’s thought about. It’s designed. Now, look at that. Look at that tree fern. Look at the tree fern. Have a look in here. That’s a new one just growing in there and that will all open up sparkly light coming all the way through. This is a fabulous place separate from the house still in amongst the trees.
Again if we come and have a look from this angle, this was the bottom of the driveway. Not that you need to but this could very easily be extended if you wanted to. That’s a washing line just there. Then you’ve got another great big outdoor entertaining deck. What’s not to love? This really is a beautiful, beautiful property. Just breathe it in, we’re going to do a quick wrap-up.
[music]
I can’t stop looking at those red walls. Are just seriously my number one favorite color but that set-aside, they still look absolutely brilliant. Why would you buy this property at number 14 Coconut Grove in Kuranda? It is unique beyond belief. It is in the middle of the rainforest. The house is low maintenance. It has been beautifully designed and created and you have the ultimate peace, quiet, and 100% privacy. You can just jump in the car and 15 minutes you are down to Smithfield shopping center. Look at this.
15 minutes to Smithfield shopping center, where you have got Bunnings and you’ve got Coles and you’ve got Woolies, and you’ve got restaurants. I’ll stop looking at that. Of course, cafes and the events, cinema, and everything that you would need, but you’re coming home to a sanctuary. Can you hear those birds? Hopefully, you can hear the birds. I very often don’t get speechless but when you’re standing in a place that really is special and look at the sparkle. We got sparkly light coming through those trees.
Of course, we have got downstairs short-term accommodation. You could have it as an art studio or a pottery studio or you could just have it for your family and your friends or guests. That is absolutely a brilliant, brilliant, self-contained area that has got endless flexibility and endless possibilities. Stop being speechless Angela. Breathe in the rainforest sanctuary feel.
