Angela Martin: Hi, I’m Angela Martin. Welcome to Number 11 Butler Drive in Kuranda. I feel so privileged to have seen so many fabulous lifestyle properties, but I have to say, I have never, ever seen a cottage as cute, and as gorgeous, and as enchanting as what we’re just about to go and have a look at. It really is. It’s so cute. You just want to cuddle it. Of course, we’re in a fabulous location, the top of the range estate in Kuranda, almost at the very end of a no through road on a whopping acre and a half – 5,800 square meters off majestic rainforest.
As if that’s not enough, for the retreat that’s going to feed your soul, we have a permanent crystal clear creek right at the bottom of the garden. We’re going to go in and have a good old explore of it. Remember, before we do, press that little subscribe button notification bell so that you get to see more unique fabulous properties just like this one.
[music]
This is just absolutely brilliant. I want you just to think about this for a minute. It’s like a little fairy princess spot in the middle of The Wet Tropics in far north Queensland in Australia. This is an unbelievably special property. I talk about, “feel a lot”, [chuckles] you will feel, hopefully, just how– It’s just magic. It’s magical. We’ve come down the driveway. It’s a big driveway, actually. Plenty of space up there for– You might have seen, actually, a shipping container, caravan, lots of space for cars.
We’ve got about 50 meters at the front of the property, and it goes about 120 meters, all the way down to that beautiful crystal clear permanent, not seasonal, but permanent Creek. Beautiful welcoming balcony. Check this out. If this is not cute, so cute you could cuddle it, I don’t know what is now. Now, it’s tiny. It’s like a tiny house. It’s compact, but you have plenty of space. Never judge a book by its cover, to sit, relax, put your feet up, still watch telly.
Everywhere you look, we have glorious, and I mean glorious rainforest views. We’re looking up there into just stunning, stunning trees. Natural light coming through too. I shouldn’t say, don’t get too comfy. We do get cool enough in Kuranda chilly winters. We’ve got a great little wood-burning stove.
Plenty of space here just to sit and relax and have your morning tea. Remember, this is not about a big family home. This is about being at one with nature. It’s about privacy. It’s about peace and quiet. It’s about listening to the birds and it’s about regeneration. This is where you’re just going to feel like you’re in an absolute sanctuary.
Kitchen completely big enough. We’ve got plenty of space. We’ve got bench space. We’ve got shelves up here and the wood is just lovely. It just gives a really warm, warm feel. Plenty of cupboards under here. Then, we’ve got, with these windows, we’ll see it when we, actually, go out into the balcony. We’ve got another gorgeous room here that you could use for anything. It could be dining table. It could be sleeping area, but at the moment has been used as an office.
Look at this. Look at the character. This is where I have to share, you’re not going to believe this when I tell you. This house was built originally by a boat builder. As we walk through it and we look at the property, you’ll get a sense of the history and you’ll also get a sense of someone who builds boats. This is exactly probably what they would have in mind, even to the point where we have the staircase. We got little space under there for putting maybe blocks of wood or something for your fire.
Then it comes all the way through and here because in a boat, you are going to be so conscious of space. You want to use every single little nook. We’ve got a little cupboard in here. Then we come through into bright, modern, fresh bathroom. We’ve got new modern loo, we’ve got new modern vanity. Again, we’ve got all the warmth of the wood on the walls, and skylight so that we have plenty of natural light. Then we have, if you just come right here at this door. Love, love, love love.
Space for a bubble bath. Nice contemporary taps and shower. Again, you are going to be looking out into the rain forests, but look at things like this brass, little knob things. You just don’t see things like that little accessories. You just don’t find them. Even this. This is absolutely marvellous. We’ve got cupboards here. We’ve got cupboards here. We’ve got cupboards here. Shelved cupboards. Again, you can put your little bits on, and then I’m going to get you to go up the stairs. I’m going to meet you at the top. The bedrooms are just brilliant.
[music]
This is absolutely– I’ve used the word enchanting about five times now, but when you come into a place and it just has that instant calm. There are no words to describe it. It’s calm. [laughs] This is just fabulous. Although it’s a character, VJ on the walls. Look at this. You’re lying in bed and you’re looking out to rainforest forest, natural gorgeous rainforest. We’ve got all the wooden beams. We’ve got all the wooden features. We’ve got cypress wooden floor.
This just makes you feel like you’re in a little castle like a little treetop castle. Then, of course, here, we’ve got a little bit of storage and also drawers here too. You can put little bits and bobs in, your little knickknacks. This is just wonderful. It’s tactile, and again, shouldn’t lie on people’s beds, but if you are sitting in bed reading, just waking up in the morning, you’re going to have natural light come in through the skylights. You are going to be sitting, looking out just like downstairs up into those fan palms, Licualas as they’re called. It’s just absolutely priceless. Then, of course, behind us, we’ve still got a little area here, where we can hang up our clothes, another little spot up here. Just as you walk through it, you cannot help, but smile and just feel at one with the world. Again, look at this brilliant, brilliant doors. I’m going to meet you back downstairs and we’re going to head out and have a look at that gorgeous balcony.
[music]
How fabulous was that? It’s all the little joyous things in life that just make your heart skip and just fill you with all the yumminess in the world. Now, talking about yumminess in the world, if ever you wanted space to be at one with nature, we’re going to look at that in a minute but you just have to come out and you just have to indulge me, if you will. Look at this. This is all wait-awhile that’s all just going to disappear. We have about 120 meters. That’s a long way.
Anyone who has got crystal clear, permanent running water on the property is so incredibly lucky. You imagine, if you either were living here, or if you’re an investor, and you just wanted to have an instant holiday accommodation or instant Airbnb, somebody will drive up– They will be here forever. You’ll never get them to go away. It just feels so yummy. Again, we’ve got plenty of space out here for little table chairs. You can put a dining table, of course, if you wanted to.
Then, this, I love. This is brilliant. Can I open this down here. Little doors. Again, look at the original doors, priceless, and they open and close. This is used as an office. I can almost guarantee if you just come in here, we can look out into the kitchen. Of course, we’ve got that our silky oak. Anybody who knows wood, silky oak, you cannot buy that. That’s about $5,000 a cubic meter if you could actually source it. You just can’t build with it anymore.
Again, as a boat builder, look, this is so cute. This is just priceless. If you were here working from home, as many of us now do, you could never, ever get stressed because you have 180-degree views of the rainforest. We’ve got a balcony out here. We’re surrounded by our trees, not our trees, but that are on our property. We’ve got 180 degrees, and we go all the way through here. Again, you’re surrounded by nature.
You’re, actually, going to hear probably more than you see in terms of the birdsong. We’re going to have maybe rare riflebirds. You’re going to have sunbirds. You’re going to have musky rat-kangaroo. You’re going to have wallabies. There’s just no end to the amount of fabulous natural wildlife.
The other thing too is that we have a little bit of a solar system and we have water tanks. Now, the property is on mains power and it’s on mains water. You don’t need any of that, but it’s here if you want to use it, and also possibly self-sustainability. You’ve got the basis of a brilliant solar system, of course, and we’ve got about 10,000 liters of rainwater tank. Absolutely joyous. Before we go back down into the garden and look at that creek, we’re, actually, going to have a look downstairs, another little special spot.
[music]
Can you hear that creek? I don’t know if we can, but let’s just take 10 seconds and see if we can hear it. I can hear it. I don’t know if you can hear it, but it’s just like water flowing. It’s almost like a waterfall. This is creative zone number two. Now, we’ve got brilliant bananas over here. I think that is literally a riflebird, and they are rare. You should google it. It comes in and it just plays in the banana trees most days. Of course, we’ll get Kookaburras and all the other lovely little animals that we spoke about.
We have a low-maintenance tropical garden. We’ve got some palms up the front. We’ve got some gingers up the front. It is all about nature and it is all about the rainforest. If we have a look down through over here, like I said, about 100 meters down there, we’re going to see that– you can hear it, it’s roaring, that crystal clear creek. That’s the septic system there. We’ve got little fence here in case you’ve got little animals or little pets. Drumroll this is brilliant.
Have a look at this first of all. This is Joy. Joy on a plate. Look at that. I love that. Windows, not very high, so you instantly feel cozy. Now, these do open up. It’s a little bolt on the door there. These open right up. If you’re in here doing what you want to do, you are looking on to, again, go on about it in love with it. Absolutely magnificent. This is such a fabulous little creative space. It’s a creative spot.
You can be doing your yoga here. You can be doing your yoga upstairs, or if you’re into woodworking, or if you just want to potter and tinker, then you’ve got all the space in the world to do it. It’s got power. Of course, it has power. Wait till I show you this. Come around here. This, if you can see the old Singer Sewing Machine, this whole bench– It’s a privilege actually. This is what the original boat builder used to make the sales for his boat. Can you believe that?
You’re sitting there, this original sewing machine’s, obviously, no longer there. Look at the size of the actual table. It’s huge and you’ve got all these little measures on here. Again, just part of history. It’s absolutely brilliant. The other thing that I noticed, if we just come around this way so I can show you behind you, is this fabulous door. Again, we’re all about cottagey doors, just brilliant little feels. Or if you did pottery, imagine having a pottery studio here with your wheel, with your clay. Oh, Angela stop it.
This takes us out to just under the house. We’ve got another little spot. You can stand up in it. That’s the front entrance as we came in. Again, plenty of space. You could put pavers on it. You could put concrete on it. Oops, you can just knock over the stools. This is just an absolutely fabulous little spot. Let me just lift up the stool for us. Did you do that? I’ve seen you did that. Joy, absolute joy, and, of course, this is going to be the laundry. We’ve got a little sink under here.
This feeds the soul. It’s priceless, absolutely priceless. Like a lot of other properties in the rainforest, you don’t normally get a lot of sun. This property, you get a lot of sun, so you have the best of both worlds. You hear that little bird? Before we head down to the creek and I promise we are getting there, wait till you see this. Did you like the bath? Do you like bubble baths? You can come in in the minute. You imagine, at nighttime, all these little fairy lights, all sparkly. We have a brilliant rustic bath complete with a fluffy towel so that you can, actually, sit in here, and you could look up at the stars, and you could look up the moon. Just pop your little head in there so you can see. I’ll just move out the way. We’ve got, as I said, moon, stars, glass, bubbly, all you can do up in your regular bathroom. Just joyous. I am going to meet you on the way down, little trumble path to that creek.
[music]
We are heading down. This pathway is a clear pathway. It’s got all these gorgeous little steps on it. I’m not going to make you walk a whole 100 meters with me. It’s like, “Oh, Angela we get the point.” No, you don’t. It is special, as in there walking through the rainforest. We’ll just do it in a couple of little tiny segments, and I’m going to meet you halfway down.
[music]
This is where our little steps begin. We can see it’s an easy walk. It’s a slopping property, of course, because that’s why we’re elevated on Butler Drive. We have water at the bottom of the garden, but we, actually, have steps that we can walk down without any problem. It, basically, just has fabulous rainforest feel, looks, views, all the way down to the bottom. I’m going to keep going.
[music]
Aha, aha, look at this. Oh, this is just unbelievably special. We are in amongst the dappley sparkly sun. That, let’s watch our step coming down these last couple of steps, is your very own– Angela, shut up. I just want you to hear what that sounds like. I hope you can hear it. It’s just fabulous, but at least you can see the water flowing. Now, this is priceless. This is seriously, seriously priceless. Look at that.
In the hottest of hottest of hottest days, you could come in here and you could just put your feet in it. Or you could go in and you could swim. That goes all the way around, and this is on your property. It’s not a little bit on your property and then it dodges over to someone else’s. This is on your property. At the back of the property is nature reserve. You feel like you’ve got this forever and it goes forever and ever. Have a look down over here. Have a look. Have a look at that.
Just take that in. That is special beyond belief. Of course, if you were to come down here, you could build a little platform. You could build a little deck, and you could come and you could read, you could paint, you could meditate, you could do yoga. Again, if we had something, for example, that was an Airbnb, there is nowhere else on the planet that you would want to be. This is just this is really special. It’s like an enchanted little fairy princess spot in the Wet Tropics.
[music]
Well, well, well, lost for words. Not normally lost for words, but I have to say and I did say at the beginning, I genuinely am privileged to see just the most amazing properties in the whole of our area, the whole of our region, but there’s something really, really special and enchanting. I use that word several times because when you read books and you have fairy tale stories, enchanting is a word that makes you feel that something’s really, really, really special, and it’s magical.
It’s two bedrooms, it’s got one bathroom, but it is cute as cute can be. If you are downsizing, maybe you just starting off as your first home, this would be absolutely priceless, absolutely priceless, absolutely precious. Of course, the location, my goodness. We’re so close to Smithfield Shopping Center with all the amenities that you’d ever want, Bunnings, and Woolies, and Coles, and cinemas, and restaurants.
We’re only five minutes into Kuranda Village, again, for FoodWorks, and your medical centers, and your post office. It is fabulous, absolutely fabulous. Almost at the end of the no through road, so no cars, no traffic, great neighborhood, private, pristine. We’ve got the potential for self-sustainability with our solar system and, of course, our water tanks, but remember too, we’re on mains power and mains water. The permanent creek, oh my goodness, and the nature reserve at the back.
Of course, the brilliant little gorgeous history of the boat builder, who was the original owner and the original dreamer upperer, if you like. He had the vision and it’s yours to enjoy. I get quite emotional because it feels great. Give me a call, Angela Martin., 0403-788-187, or please visit the website angelamartin.tv. Don’t forget to subscribe.
