Angela: Hi, I’m Angela Martin, and welcome to 9 Scrub Street in Kuranda also known as number 417 Myola Road. This is an absolute little gem of a property. It has got so much potential, it’s unbelievable. What makes it really different from pretty much all the other properties on Scrub Street is that it’s only one of four that has dual access. We’ve just come in from Myola Road, and the property runs all the way through to Scrub Street, so flexibility is huge. Location is brilliant. We are so close to Kuranda State School, and of course Steiner School. Let’s have a wander through the garden, and let’s head over to the house.
[music].
We have the first flexible option in many, many, many is the fact that we’ve actually got a concrete slab here so you could put a little granny flat, you could put a little shed, you could put a little carport. If you wanted to use the Myola Road entrance, you just come straight in, here we are here, and then we are just straight through to the house. If you actually come over here, you get a nice view of the cottage feel. It has two separate little wings if you like. The one that is straight ahead that you’ll see with the solar hot water in it– Sorry, the solar power, is the living area with kitchen and a little office. The section over here, we have got three bedrooms, and a bathroom, and laundry is on the outside.
Let’s just go in and have an explore.
[music].
The location as we said just a minute ago is absolutely brilliant, and the actual land itself is about just over quarter of acre, so it’s about 1,200-ish square meters, and it runs this way. Like I said before, we can come around and enter from Scrub Street because we do have a really massive shed at the back garden section. First thing you’re going to notice is that it is block. Now, we know that we love block because it’s easy to maintain. If this was all painted and rendered, it would be absolutely beautiful. We should really be starting here, but we’re going to start here. I want us to just get a feel for the potential, so paint, outdoor living, gorgeous furnishings, outdoor day bed, just relaxation.
Of course, it is character-filled. It’s very unusual– Come on in. It’s very unusual to actually find a house that is made of concrete with a high ceilings, cathedral ceilings. It normally has the regular ceiling, but this breathes and it has got a lot of natural light. We can see this gorgeous little poles slap-bang in the middle just waiting to be hang things on like little plants, or orchids, or little pictures.
The kitchen is basic. It’s simple. You would possibly put in a new kitchen if you wanted to, but it’s completely serviceable. You’ve got your drawers. This is something that you really don’t see very often, and I do normally just go on a bit when you see these things. Dual sinks with great big draining boards. Normally in the modern houses, they’re just little baby sinks with a little teeny board. This really would allow you just to go for broke if you’re entertaining, and you could just put a bench here. There’s clearly been one here at some point. I think originally, this use to be a sunken lounge. It has had life and it is got filled with character, just so much character. On this little spot over here, looking out on to a water tank. This is just a great little nook. It’s got fly screens on it, it’s got louvers on it. You probably have that as an office maybe, or just a little storage area, craft area.
What I love about it is the fact that we have got open living. We got the balconies that run all the way along here that join the two gorgeous little pods. Of course, we’ve got nice aluminium doors that open again onto this– How good is that? We have the indoor-outdoor area. It’s just that simple. If we just turn our little heads around here, we can see that if you’ve got young children maybe, or if you got a little doggie or something, we’ve actually got some gates where you got that little bit of containment. Look, you would not know that you were in the middle of suburbia on– You’re on like I said 1,200 square meters, so it’s just over a quarter of an acre. It’s no wonder it can look like that. You have got a plenty potterability if you love gardening, and it’s peaceful. You can hear those birds.
Little gate here. Let’s go through and have a look. This takes us to the back garden or the Scrub Street exit or entry, whichever way you want to call it. We’ve got this fabulous little balcony and I go on about it, but it joins and it makes sense. Actually, feels fabulous. Again, little gate. Love the wooden stairs. We have an outdoor laundry. The wet tropics is just brilliant. You’ve got plenty of space. Again, you’ve got concrete, you can paint it, you can hang plants from it, you can put a lot of stuff. You can do whatever you wanted to do. Have an outdoor hanging, and outdoor washing is just fabulous.
All of the windows come out onto the balcony. We’ve got the bathroom, and we’ve got three bedrooms, and then we’ve got a living space. It seems really odd that we’re going to go in via the bathroom, but we’re here, so this is the way that we’re going to go. I think this is fabulous. This is filled with natural light. Look at the height of the ceilings. Just run your eye up there so you can see. We’ve got louver windows, so plenty of breeze, plenty natural, natural, natural, natural light. I’ve gone on about that because it just feeds the soul. It feels fabulous.
Then we have this unbelievably brilliant organic bath. This would be slate and concrete. You could just imagine the decadence of actually filling that up with hot water. We have gas hot water by the way, so those bills are going to be quite low, your electricity bills. Feel the bubbles. The floor, look how brilliant and organic the floor is. Again, just like that big long drainer in the kitchen, just marvellous. We’ve got three rooms that come off– It doesn’t actually come off the bathroom. As I said, we come in through the verandas, but we got three rooms here. Number one. Brilliant character. Look at this up here, we got little windows, we’ve got VJ which is that organic. It’s just got a rusticy cottagey feel, and I personally love VJ. Windows, again, with a natural light, and doors so we can come in and out. We’ll have a look at that from the other side. We’ll go back through this way.
Then we’ve got two other big rooms. This room here again looks out to the garden. Aluminum. It’s locked. Aluminum, low maintenance, just the best, and this is the big room in here. Big enough for a king bed without any problem at all. Again, we have got the block concrete walls. What I think is brilliant is that if you have, say for example, a teenager, or you maybe have a parent or somebody staying, they actually could have this part of the house. You could have this is a bedroom, that is a guest room, and everyone is just looking out in the garden. Absolutely glorious. Who would’ve thought that this existed? Little gem, little oasis.
We’re going to head through over there and I’m going to meet you at the back.
[music]
Come on down to the back garden. This is so unexpected that we have a three-bay shed. We’ve got little person entrance, if you like, but you can see that the gardens have just all been cut back. If you are a gardener, this is just going to be joy on earth to be able to transform these gardens into the, just the magnificent tropical gardens that they can be. Because we are still in the middle of moving, I’m going to give you a little glimpse in here, but look, it’s a man shed or it’s a lady shed and it’s big and it’s got power.
Let’s not worry about the storage, just come in and marvel at the ability to dream. You could clearly put your cars here. Of course, you put your cars here, but as we mentioned at the beginning, maybe if you’re downsizing, you just need a little car space and you could easily build that at the front on Myola road and this just becomes a brilliant woodworking shed, pottery sheds, glass making shed, just artists. This is an artist’s dream actually, or you could clad it and you could make it into a music studio. You could do whatever you want. It’s high, we’ve got power and of course, we have got concrete slab so plenty of potential.
Then if we just have a little look down through there, that’s the gates that take us out into Scrub Street. You can come in that way if you want, or you can come in Myola Road. Just take half a minute to breathe and then we’re going to head back up there, do a little wrap-up. I really hope you’ve enjoyed this little baby film of No. 9 Scrub Street, or 417 Myola Road in Kuranda. As we chatted at the beginning, it is an absolute little gem and it’s just waiting for the right person to come along, love it to bits, and either just enjoy it as is, or to develop it into an incredibly cute, gorgeous little cottage.
If you’re downsizing and you love gardening, but you don’t want to spend all day every day on a big ride on mower, this is absolutely perfect. If you are first home buyer, and you can’t afford $9 billion, well, this would absolutely be perfect. Likewise too, if you’re an investor and you can’t get here or you want to buy it and you can’t move here, so rentable just brilliant location. We mentioned before all that lovely little natural light. We’ve got the two little pods. Even as we stand here, we could screen this, we could put louvers on it and this literally again becomes a second living area, instant gas, hot water, we have got solar panels, so those power bills are pretty good and natural light, of course, high cathedral ceilings and that three-bay shed. Who would have thought that we would have had a three-bay shade with concrete and power? Absolutely brilliant.
Location too, please, don’t forget about the location. The Steiner School is not too far away. Kuranda State School, not too far away, we’ve got the swimming pool, swimming center not too far away and of course you just a hop step and jump into Kuranda village, an easy commute into Cairns.
